I've been using aerial friction a little more lately, and it's more useful than I thought it would be. I'm definitely in the market for a device like this when it comes out, if I can be patient and not just buy a rigging wrench.
Based mostly on this thread I picked up a pair of velcro straps this weekend. (I was in Bellingham for some mountain biking, so I stopped by Wesspur to see it in person. The show room is closed due to covid but it was still fun to see in person and dig though the free ropes...) I've been using a...
The latest: Bifrost with 8mm Epicord Michocan. I also swapped out my hitch climber pulley for the rope wrench pulley, and a 10" tether for a 7.5" tether. The whole set up is very compact, doesn't flop around, and frickin whizzes up and down.
For those of you with more experience / bigger brains than me...
If you're tying a michocan on a DMM hitch climber pulley, and if you're trying to make a compact system, do you think the stack height of the DMM pulley forces you to have longer legs on the prussik? Do you think that affects the...
Dynaglide green (I've heard it matters that you use green...) and Weaver bags. I always throw a 12 oz, with a 16 on the other end. I usually use a 200ft line but keep a spare 150 in my cube, plus an extra throw ball. I keep it all in one of those Eldrid cubes which I can't tell if I like or not...
I was recently working a young cottonwood in a backyard, growing over a newly built retaining wall. The tree was about 70', 18" dbh, and at the far edge of my comfort zone. I was speedlining everything but the wood, with the bottom of the speedline tied off to the skid steer. I zipped down 8...
I just received a Samson basic splicing kit for my birthday and I'm very excited about taking the dive into this weird little rabbit hole. There's a lot of interesting info on this forum, but I'm hoping some of you can share your thoughts on good places to start as a beginner, or a broad...
I've always just used a few trunk wraps with and AB and quickie to make a base anchor, but lately I've been accessing some taller, wider trees having moved out west and I don't want to give up 30ft of climb line on my anchor. I bought a short piece of rope to use as an anchor, and I'd love to...
Please humor my vanity, but I'm in the market for a 16" guide bar for my Echo 355t, and I really want one that's mostly black. Cause it looks cooler. Does anyone know of any brands that make a high quality, mostly black or dark gray bar?
Don't cross-contaminate the clean up processes. There are 4 categories of clean up, and they should be dealt with separately: brush, wood, raking, and stubs. Don't toss a stub in my brush pile, don't leave a piece of brush stuck to a log, don't go tossing logs ontop of what I just raked.
Oh and P.S.
I went back the next day to finish it off, and everything went really smoothly and I was totally comfortable. Amazing what a good night sleep and slightly higher TIP will do for your confidence.
Last week I was working on a large maple removal with lots of rigging that was taking me longer than anticipated. Around hour 8 of being aloft, I had about 3 branches and a top left to rope out. A few minutes prior I had another piece go wrong in a scary way, which was a testament to the fact...
A compass with an inclinometer is probably a bit cheaper, very accurate, never runs out of batteries, and does a hundred other tasks too. Shoot the angle, pace it out, and do a little trig.
Blue moon, 28" Epicord 9.3, michocan 4/1. I'm about 160 lbs.
I've used a couple other types of knots and cordage and they were mostly fine, but this is completely different. Still gotta try it in the rain but it's so far it's wicked smooth in all directions.
I've been having an issue where the bungee component detaches from the ascender too easily. Usually I stow the whole unit on my harness after initial ascent, but lately it's been frequently falling apart while hanging back there. I don't really need it to be constantly modular, but I want it to...
