    2 New Climbers, Need Advice

Yeah you will....buy ropes accordingly. :)

    Compact Bulldog Bone

When I made a couple of the snap links, I found a vise was ideal to gently 'adjust' the opening for a firmer snap. Go easy...it doesn't take much before you have to adjust the other way with a file.

    Tips and Tricks

I suggest playing with a 10mm combination wrench for proof of concept testing.

    Nagano Tree Work

Nice. I like seeing the hook in action. However, I would caution against connecting your knee ascender to the bottom arm of the BDB as this pulls down on it, while it needs to point up to grab.

    Sharpening hazard

Just like with everything else in this world, it takes a little common sense to remain safe. Been using the air hose without incident for ~56 years and will continue to do so. I'm comfortable that used properly, it is safer than climbing trees, using chainsaws, driving, going down stairs, etc.:sisi:

    Sharpening hazard

I never considered it just sharpening a chain (hand file), but I learned as a child to use the air hose after wood or metal working to clean off clothes, hair, face, etc. It's easy to get a stray bit in your eyes well after the work is done. Heck...I'm paranoid about the glitter on Christmas...

    DRT

I used both hands for today. It was getting late or I might have set it up with swivels. I need to get my 2nd BDB put back together for the next time. One of the rope bridges is adjustable so it would have been easy enough equalize the height of the two devices. The setup certainly resolved my...

    DRT

After several attempts to get a throwline where I wanted it in a tulip poplar, the closest I came was farther out on the limb than I felt comfortable with. My solution was to place a second rope on a lower branch and climb DSRT for the first time. Nice! I started off with a foot ascender on...

    Compact Bulldog Bone

I succumbed to the 'hype' and bought some a while back. I appear to be that odd ball that doesn't particularly care for it. With the RR and BDB, it has more of an on/off feel when releasing to descend. It is not as easy and precise to moderate descent as my favored Yale 11.7 is. As with...

Some techniques used for setting a line, positioning and moving from tree/limb to tree/limb.

I had a similar problem the other day where the magnet weighed the line too much and would slide back toward me. It may have just been my insistence on using the larger magnet. Time to play with a heavier bag and/or the smaller mag. EDIT: My bad. I watched the video again and I had put the...

    New Tribe Walkabout Saddle

The photo on Treestuff has the older leg loops which I think makes it the same saddle as the Walkabout and is probably the reason for the discounted price. A call to confirm would be in order, but it might be the last chance for that style.

    New Tribe Walkabout Saddle

Bummer...the walkabout is no longer at Treestuff. WesSpur has them in both sizes for a little more. Edit...WesSpur has the webbing bridge version. Says they can get the rope bridge, but I'm guessing it's old ad copy and no longer available.

Ummmm....wishbones are typically intentionally broken. Not the association I would want with PPE.

    New Tribe Walkabout Saddle

I picked one up about a month ago as a lighter version of my NT Onyx. Treestuff.com has the large size on sale (I think they have been discontinued by NT). I like it for my recreational climbing. I find it to be a very comfortable saddle and even more so with the optional add on waist and leg...

    Rope Sleeves are save?

Of course, any meaningful test will require your full weight on the device.....LOW and slow.

    Rope Sleeves are save?

Assuming you are talking about the Dan House Rope Sleeves, I've been hit in the hand with one coming down while I was removing the rope and it hit fairly hard (60' slide). Disclaimer...I have limited experience and have not tested this scenario. I haven't used a zig zag but I wouldn't worry...

I assume the special plates/pins to replace the chain links would also cost more than the current links. While I did the "fit/test/grind/repeat" on my DIY BDB chain link slots, if I was doing several, I would have a simple 'cut-off wheel/jig setup' to make this a quick and repeatable operation...
