Compact Bulldog Bone

I too would like to see some break testing and rope slippage results. I climbed on it 2 days now and really am starting to enjoy it, it compares to the Rope runner and Uni some and is different in other areas. I just enjoy climbing and like to climb on just about anything I guess , but its nice to see how strong something is as well.

I hear you, Jimmy. I think I've found the Rope Runner to be a Lamborghini, and the Bone to be a Ferrari with monster truck tires on it. Maybe? Ugh, I don't know. That analogy isn't really all that good, but I think folks will get my point. They're both beautiful machina, I'm just gravitating to the Bone due to the speed and ability to load/unload without loose parts, and that a swivel can be incorporated right into the unit.

What Gordon (Bone) and Kevin (RW/RR) have built for us is STILL sinking in for me when I think of the magnitude of their accomplishments, and not only for our industry but for any other rope access field. I think some points should go to Morgan Thompson (Uni) as well. ;)

There is a break test of The Bone being undertaken by a third party with the 6061 alloy (which is all Bones to date).
Aaron if they do not do a drop test, which in my mind is the most meaningful, then I will send you a new Bone with the 7075 alloy to drop test.
Here is video of my original drop test using an early OAR design.

lanyard bone for 10mm rope. Nickel plated links and SS arms. Notice the bollard axle at the end of the bottom arm, this can be done on the stock Bone also with a slick pin, to ease slack tending.

Couldn't you climb with that as your primary system? I would like to hear Erics thoughts and experience using that as is secondary. It would be pretty neat to see Eric climb DSRT with two bones and the mini bone (wink wink;):sisi:). I think the name "pitbull" bone fits.

I agree Eric with the analogy and what got my attention as well was how easy it can be installed on the rope and off. I like to pony tail my rope quite a bit and so far the bone seems the best for that . The Uni was nice as well(for quick on and off) but I just did not like tending slack with the uni

Good point. I called the first mini Bone a Wishbone and I think that is what Will is picking up on. I guess it does sort of "break/bend" to release.

On another note, The Bone will release with the bottom arm, just as well as the top arm, all you need is a long enough arm at the bottom to gain the mechanical advantage. I have made a 5" long extension handle on the bottom arm that is easy to add/remove with one slick pin. As you pull down on the extension handle, the top arm swings upward even more as the load is transferred to the top arm. I think a recreational climber, might really enjoy this mode of release.

To make it hold on 10mm - did you move the pivot on the upper arm further out?

I recently made my own 2nd-bone to play with the top arm. I found that extending the top and bottom pivots slightly made it work beautifully with my 11mm rope - although it doesnt tend quite so smoothly of course.

No, in fact the upper pivot length is 1-1/8" (the lower pivot length is only 3/4"). The spacing between the arms (and the bollard-friction link pin) is on the order of 11mm. Also the pin dia. is only 6mm.

That's really awesome its that compact !..Gordon how bout the two line version johnnypro was quoting about on the donuts no acronym thread or maybe DRT thread . I think it was a post off this thread when I was talking about how I call my c.b.d.b the bone eagle you were speaking of one that accepted two lines or something to that affect . Is anything like this in production?
