Indeed. Keeping pieces on the small side helped. Letting it run a little helps, but we got to the point we couldn’t let it run without risking the shed, that’s where we quit. I’m more faller than climber/rigger.Looks like a big swing from the right stem to the centre.

I saw many looking ugly around my area,Interesting looking failure.
Around here, Rhododendron don’t do well unless they are in partial shade. Even then, they might not live.
Just watched the video, nice job.Sick cottonwood topped and flopped in the yard

I think every cottonwood I have cut (which is not many) has had an included limb in the hinge. It seems it would be wise to shave the bark at least on the tension side if there is one and do a gap face so the hinge can be inspected.
Nice job, great use of the space available .Reduced back and side weight, strapped up high, flopped. View attachment 102278View attachment 102279View attachment 102280View attachment 102281
No, how's that work.Anyone using a counter-pressure throw line (black ziptie) to position a Running bowline (blue/white) on a little stub when there is no suitable fork?View attachment 102327
I have heard that the resins harden like glass after lightning stike and they get way harder to cut. Like, keep a bunch of extra chains for that day level hard.View attachment 102337
135’ lightning struck ponderosa. I’m the tiny black dot taking the top. Major decay in the first 30+ feet of the tree and significant lean to the east from our prevailing winds made this one memorable. It will be interesting to see how much decay there is while craning the wood down next Wednesday.
