I’m still chasing hangers on my forestry gig from the January Ice Storm. I’m studying how to “safely “ climb above the damage. I ended up advancing my climbing line to the other leader to get my positioning. I have started using an access line and bringing up a second climb line. I don’t do production work so, no hurry and safety first.

Sick cottonwood topped and flopped in the yard

I think every cottonwood I have cut (which is not many) has had an included limb in the hinge. It seems it would be wise to shave the bark at least on the tension side if there is one and do a gap face so the hinge can be inspected.
Just watched the video, nice job.
I don't think I'd be too concerned about that limb in there, unless the drop was really tight.
Was just noticing how bad my MIL's looks. We've removed a few branches over the yrs, but she hasn't wanted to remove it yet. I'm afraid it will have to loose a large branch onto the barn before she's ready. Every tree in the yard they (the family) planted, so they are all special to her. She's let me drop a couple black locust and a large blue spruce. I got in trouble with my BIL because I didn't let him get pics with his family beforehand of the spruce, he planted that one with another BIL. It was one of the only trees my MIL has ever said "cut it down", other than an ash that was completely dead lol.
