    Flat Ropes

For years I didn't know there was anything better than True Blue and the Tautline. Until the Blakes came along.

    Flat Ropes

I haven't got to use the rr pro enough yet to decide. My original rr would flatten the rope enough to make it harder to tend. Considerably harder. Didn't notice it much with the wrench though. Can't see it hurting the rope. Just a mild hindrance.

Edit: Buffs are actually ok masks

They claim to care about our health but the fda still approves cigarettes, tobacco and alcohol. Not to mention all the unhealthy soft drinks, candy and sweets that you can get at every store. Which all leads to disease that kills numerous people every year. I have always stayed away from...

    Rigging Set-up

Looks good. The higher you can get your line in the two trees the better so it will have a good deflection so as not to out as much strain on the two trees. Unless theyre bobm proof then it wouldn't really matter. I recently watched a video where the guy usedthis same setup. I'll see if I can...

Watch out for those bald face hornets!

Not to derail but whatever happened to the murder hornets? Haven't heard anymore about them. I think the covid bumped them down a few slots but they were really talking about them for a few days.

Yep. Dan House rope sleeve. They're pretty nice. Way easier to install than ring to ring. If you have a 1/2 rope eye splice that will need to pass thru you'll need to get the 3/4. A taped end on a 1/2 rope is hard to get in the 1/2 rope sleeve.

I just got a splicing kit, now what?

I'm just starting to get into splicing myself. I'm going to start with Tenex Tec making Ultra slings for rigging rings then hopefully be able to put a spliced eye on a climbline someday.

Tree in need of Cabling We survived the Derecho

I didn't know Stonehenge was in Iowa. Lol. Looks like it's going to need cabling back together. The right fork might be ready to fall. If it's 15 ft tall it will probably need cabled at about 10 to 12 ft high. I don't recommend getting on a ladder to do that. If you really like the tree Id...

Rigging Ring sizes that are sensible?

I'm about to do the same thing you are. I just bought a couple of the All Gear big rings. There's quite a difference in the prices of rings. I'd like to eventually get at least one of the Fiori rings. The bigger the better for me. I do have one of the smaller rings on a dead eye sling for the...

I agree with Jonny about passing on this one or using a lift. You will be putting yourself in a dangerous position. I've heard of people using the small keychain carabiners as a breakable link between your lanyard clip and your saddle. Also a certain number of zipties will give you an...

Submit a Quote / Never Hear From Client Again

It is written on my estimates "Estimate good for 30 days from above date." People will call back months later and want the same price. I might have bid it in December when we're slow and they want in done in August when were booked out. Summertime prices are higher. I gave an estimate to fall a...

Leaving rope in tree over night

You can do it but squirrels might chew on it. I'd pull a throwline back up for an overnight stay. Or paracord.

When people try to do their own treework

We were working a job across from a church a few years ago. A guy walked over from the church and wanted an estimate. Fall one big dead pine and let it lay. I would have to set a line in it and set a block in the woods and pull it with the tractor. $50 since it's a church and I'm just...

    tore my oblique

I tore something in that area last summer. Took 3 months to get to where I could work without terrible pain. Couldn't cough or sneeze. Could only take about a quarter of a breath. About a week in it got worse. Wife finally talked me in to going to er. When I gave in to go I couldn't get out of...
