A question about tree camping (Moss, READ THIS!)

I think he said the guy made it himself.

First day on the rope runner

I don't think he ever had a part that could be dropped. I believe he did not completely remove the top slick pin...only opened it enough to 'twist' the rope past it.

    APTA-tude adjustment

I installed a 1.5" butterfly valve a week ago and finally got to try it out this evening. WOW ! I have to agree that it is a big improvement over the ball valve for both the reasons you stated. 200 psi put a 12 oz bag pulling dynaglide completely over the top of a ~110' tree and there was much...

    General saddle question

I initially had the same problem (I possibly should have bought the smaller size???). When I couldn't find a way to adjust it out, I called NT and after a lengthy conversation, they suggested I add and additional 'butt strap' connected to the D-rings. This helped considerably and is the blue...

    Who's a self taught climber?

Not necessarily. Cut a basal anchored SRT setup and the weight of the anchored side could pull the rope above you to the ground while the weight of the rop below you pulls it down through your ascending device to ground.

    General saddle question

For those responding about slipping buckles, unless I read the OP wrong, he is referring to the fact that while your weigh is on the saddle, the (non-life support portion) waist belt hangs loose due to the way the bridge pulls in on the harness. I don't think he is talking about the webbing belt...

    Who's a self taught climber?

As important as careful modulation of the device during controlled descent, is how you react when things become uncontrolled. When I started using the SRT devices (hitch hiker, rope wrench, rope runner, etc.) one of the first things I did was to repeatedly do short fast drops and let go of the...

    General saddle question

My Onyx and NT Walkabout do the same thing but I have never noticed the loose belt getting in the way. Once I realized the belt is only there to keep the saddle in place when it is unweighted, I never thought about it again.

    New Rec Climber

I don't recall reading about any other climbers using a figure 8 or other descending device in addition to a DdRT or SRT system to descend. Early on, I carried an 8 as a backup way to get down but now rely on the knowledge that I could use a biner (which I have anyway) with a munter hitch and...

    New Rec Climber

Good to get an update. Get foot and knee ascenders and let your legs do the climbing instead of hip thrusting.

Teufelberger 11.5mm and Yale Kernmaster 11m Review

My opinion of Platinum 11.5mm is that it is way too bouncy and the diameter varies slightly with the braid which is noticeable while descending. Way too high of a price for what it is. Of all my ropes, it is the least favorite. I do like the light weight/smaller diameter of the 10.5mm used as a...

    APTA-tude adjustment

http://www.topeak.com/products/Pumps/JoeBlowAce ... http://www.amazon.com/Topeak-JoeBlow-Floor-Bicycle-Tire/dp/B000ZKATW4 Pricey, but it will get the job done. 11 pumps on the "hardest" setting results in ~120 PSI...15 pumps to 120 PSI if you change over to the middle setting at 60 PSI like you...

    Compact Bulldog Bone

FWIW, the "nubs" on the upper arms are too small in diameter to prevent the upper and lower arms from cross locking.

    Friction Saver ring heat?

There is lots of info on the thermal properties of Dyneema to be had with a quick internet search. Keep in mind that it has a fairly low melting point and starts losing strength well below that.

    Rope Runner Problems

I'm going to take a wild guess that you climbed limbs without the tether point attached and then tended the rope by hand. This would allow the RR to hang low and get all crossed up with the biner and bridge ring. I always have the tether point attached when climbing to prevent slack in the rope...

    Rope Runner Problems

Can we assume you have notified Tree Stuff or Kevin so they can see if it's a problem with all of the new RR's? My red version made prior to the CMI version would have to be tweaked/damaged in order to get far enough out of alignment to cross like in your photo.

    APTA-tude adjustment

That pressure makes using CO2 a very real option and the height obtained makes me wonder if Tree Stuff should reduce their chamber size for reduced pumping and go to the 1" valve for added stability when firing as well as reduced material costs.

    APTA-tude adjustment

If it's of any help, there are lot's of CO2 bicycle tire inflators with valves that would let you remove the cartridge before firing the APTA and allow you to start the next charge with the remaining CO2 although putting in the remaining volume and then having to change the cartridge may be more...

good rope to use with zizag

11.5 is the minimum stated by Petzl, however, 11mm NE Fly has worked well for me.
