zigzag

After climbing on the Zig Zag yesterday I have to tip my hat to Petzl. I've been a staunch A.R.T. supporter the last few years but now that I tried the Zig Zag my brand loyalty might have switched.

The Zig Zag self tends just as well if not better than the Spiderjack or the Lockjack. I was climbing on Calamine. One of the really great things about the Zig Zag is how intuitive it is. It is just like grabbing a hitch.

Now we just need to get Petzl to make sure they can rebuild the thing when it wears out. Longevity of the device will make or break it in my book. If I could get a year out of one though I would say it is probably worth it.

Jimmy-

I'm sure Velocity will work great with the Zig Zag if it self tended fine with Calamine which is a little fatter.

I climbed yesterday with the zigzag and velocity. If your smooth on it ascending I found it would self tend. A few times as going quick spurts it did not but I had no problems all day with it.

I love it!

I just talked to a friend who really likes the zigzag. Especially for blocking down spars. He's using it to descend between cuts single line with no friction backup. Says it works well. Anyone care to comment on this particular way of using it?

I'm guessing this is probably against the manufacturer's recommended use?

... The devise is rated for 11mm to 13mm . Everything up to 13mm seems to work well. ....

I see 11.5 - 13 listed now, my kernmantle is 11. Those that are using it, is the 11 going to work ok? (I did not think I would be tempted but the shinny lure hoked me and I'm getting pulled in)

You might just as well go flog yourself with a bicycle chain if you are gonna keep denying yourself the pleasure of a Zigzag.

That is a very cool video and certainly a shinny lure but did anyone really notice that ALL the ascending is done without the use of a Zigzag, it may as well have been in a backpack.
Unlike a RW promotional video that is ALL RW.........but I still want one!

Woah, you are very well informed. I didn't even see those come in yet.

I normally ascend with a wraptor, frog walker or footlock on a seperate access line so the zigzag will be perfect for me.

I dont know if this has been mentioned already but , I cant find a kn rating on the zig zag? This thing is awesome but some safety specs would be nice!?

I'll chime in from the dinosaur (64 yr old 6' 175 chiseled lbs) section of the gallery and been climbing on one for over a week and love it. Wraptor up and good to go. Smoooooth.

Plan to start a young 18 year old employee on it next week. Think it well expedite training AND safety of training.

Wouldn't want to shock load much with a small slip with slack, to find out how much it could take tho. My guess....not a lot.
