new rope wrench tether

[ QUOTE ]
I am waiting for an oceans solid tether. No rush I know he is busy.

I still think that ISC, petzl or DMM needs to make a slack tending pulley that can accommodate the solid tether and RW.

wanna bet ISC will step up?

The petzl fixe or DMM Pinto won't work? Can't you put the stiff tether eye in the space between the cheek plate connector holes?

Erik I love the looks of your tether. if you have any more i would love to try one. we been crazy busy doing storm work, how you guys doing up there?

Storm work: Buried.

I'll put you on the list for a tether, Ian. Stay alert and safe through all the storm work. Hopefully we'll all have some fun stories to share when we all meet in January.

The tether is better than the one pictured following a few key updates. You won't be let down.

For anyone that is reading this who is waiting for a tether, here's a quick update...they are now in production and a short run is complete and waiting for the end dip to dry. They should be ready for shipment within one week. Thanks everyone for your patience, as I have been swamped with work and "career development".

I have been using a shackle that i put in the splice with the RW. But i think i'm going to just use a piece of throwline. Originally i didn't like the idea cause its not rated for life support. Now i think i like that idea. My thinking is if the ascender sees to much force it will break the throwline and not shear my climbing line. Then i'll load the RW and my hitch. I'd like to drop some pieces and see if it works like i think.

Derrick,

Any updates on what you're using now to attach to your upper ascender?

Have you given the throwline idea a try? How's that working out?

Thanks.

Here is an Aluminum Wrench tether I fabricated today. I had previously made a wooden one, but it broke.

Thanks, Aluminum is difficult to cut. it clogs up the band saw teeth and Teflon spray only gos so far. I used a belt sander to shape and smooth the edges.

I had to create aluminum spacers using a hole saw to keep the tether from flopping around on the Rope Wrench. They can be seen in the second pic.

Treezy, that looks like it should advance the wrench nicely and leave room for your hand to release the hitch, plus a nice hole for advancing the whole device. Nice.

You've pretty much got the idea Surveyor. The second hole acts not only as a place to attach my lanyard, but also as a second adjustment for the wrench itself.

I was wondering how it would go as a further weight reduction measure (and it may offer further adjustment) if the entire length was cross drilled or sectioned just enough so to leave the strength required? Just a thought.

The description for the new Sterling Tether on treestuff says,

"...That slight flex helps with slack tending when returning from limb walks..."

I really like the idea of the aluminum....but does it impede slack tending?

I was thinking about getting a piece of threaded rod and putting an Amon Eye on each end...

I guess I will let you know after I climb on it a while. The wooden version which was virtually the same shape worked great. I almost didn't need to put my lanyard over the shoulder to get it to tend.

I had thought about making a shock absorbing tether using a small air or spring piston.

I've found that splicing the hitch cord to the becket on the pinto and the other eye between the cheek plates with the tether works really nice and engages really well after slack tending. I'm using a Pinto Rig and the 2 eyes fit no problem. No pics with me but a pic of the setup is on Single Rope Junkies.
