new rope wrench tether

Cary, something to be mindful of is that extra blue-bandit you put in is between the side plates of the RW. There is a potential for this to wedge in between the side plates and actually keep it from engaging. I would recommend that it is beefed up so that it can't fit in between the side plates instead rests right underneath them.

This is a greater concern with the zk-1 where the side plates are further apart. You don't want it to become wedged in between the side plates and cause it be become stuck in the neutral position.

Hope thats clear.

gotcha' Derrick , will do, so far it seems good, I'll know when I do a long climb with it.

The tether recipie has been updated and they will be coming out longer. "Bigger is better". Most hitch cords are 30" in length, and the tethers will be made around this main parameter.

If you've requested one, please know we are in the middle of storm damage work.

Thanks for posting, Cary. I'll get you a longer one ASAP!

awesome, I think maybe 2" longer?

Thinking of the future: ideal for attaching a wrench to the zig-zag. A link or small biner would complete the connection and provide an extra point of attachment.

Did you somehow make the tether and biner act as one, The whole unit stiff? Personally i wouldn't recommend having the tether less then 12". This would include the biner if you are using that as an extra connection point. Also i feel its safer and preforms better if the whole thing is stiff or rigid.

Here is a little video i made, explaining some of the things i have found.

In kentucky i saw some guys that were able to make a shorter tether and a biner that the whole unit remains rigid. Seems perfectly fine to me, you get the benifits of a stiff or rigid tether and also the convenience of a quick connect.

Derrick,

With the stiff tether and Fixe pulley how are you attaching your upper ascender now? I saw in the other vid that you used a piece of plexi combined with cordage and a hole in the plexi.

I've used Delrin for some interesting applications. I could see it being used for a stiff tether. It's tough and easy to work. Plexi is brittle and breaks with sharp edges kinda like glass. It wouldn't likely cut rope but it could cut flesh.

I say Plexiglas glass as i'm not sure what its actually called. It was a spare piece from a rebuild of a roof of a skid loader. Its made not to shatter and supposedly can be bent in half without breaking. Its worked great for the time i've used it 6+ mnths.

I have been using a shackle that i put in the splice with the RW. But i think i'm going to just use a piece of throwline. Originally i didn't like the idea cause its not rated for life support. Now i think i like that idea. My thinking is if the ascender sees to much force it will break the throwline and not shear my climbing line. Then i'll load the RW and my hitch. I'd like to drop some pieces and see if it works like i think.

hey Chris,

All of the stiffys are made in house for Wesspur, so if you wanted a custom 8" one we could rig one up for you no problem.

cheers!

Thanks! And let me know how you like it at 8", we may start providing 8" and 12" as options since a lot of folks seem to really like dialing in their rigid tethers.

Exactly what I was thinking.

How do you guys attach the stiff tether to your climbing system? I've been putting mine to the side of the prussik and hitchclimber pulley all on one pulley but it tweaks the tether as it keeps it at a slight angle to the whole system....?
