Geezers 2008

...and there was this guy hanging around... kind of a Geezer wannabe I suppose... really disagreeable guy... and he was in MY group.

For real, Bruce Smith is one of the best folks you'll ever meet. Without his help and advice, I wouldn't have finished the comp. Thank you Silverback.

Sunday was rec climbing in Windermere. This is what some of the tie-ins looked like at one point.

There were people all over the tree...

If it weren't for this guy keeping the ropes free, the tangle would have been legendary...

Thank you Kristian.

I am interested in how everyone went about lifting him off and away from where is is sprawled out.

I had the 'pleasure' of drawing #1 climber through AR.

After entering the ring I setup my SRT ascent system using the Eddy instead of the GriGri. This would allow me, the rescuer to be lowered by a groundie in case I needed assistance.

After ascending the the victim, doing an assessment, folding his arms, attaching a pickoff lanyard between our front d-rings and legs to one side I reached over to snug up his hitch a bit. This would reduce the amount of drop in his system when we started to descend.

I slid the victim onto my lap and we moved to the 'neutral' hang. Then I reached up to slide his hitch down with my left hand. My rope was looped over the top of the Unicender so I could control my descent and use my right hand a little.

When I grabbed his hitch I found that it was locked up. Oh no!!! There was a piece of electrical tape that was used to mark the victim's hitch location on the rope and it had sucked into his hitch. After tugging like mad a few times and finding it locked I looked for another solution.

The Pantin was still on my foot so I clipped onto the victim's down rope and pulled him up just a little to take some weight off his hitch. It was just barely enough to allow me to tug his hitch a bit. Then I let him down a couple of inches before repeating the Pantin lift. When I grabbed onto his hitch the third time the tape had come out of his hitch and he slid down with me under my control. Just them time was called. Bummer...

Thanks again to all.
I have a small list of things we found around here.
3 pair of black dress socks
1 pair of eye glasses
1 purple chair
1 suit coat
1 fleece
5 bush beers
1 budweiser
1 bud light
And a big smile on my face that hasn't dimmed .
Keep the photos coming, I didn't get much of a chance to take any, so anyone who would like to send me some I would appreciate it,
Till I have some more time for proper thanks.
Scotty

Thanks for all the good shots, Blinky. I am really looking forward to seeing everyone's photos.

I am also still recovering from one of the best weekends I have had in quite some time. I don't think I ever want to miss another Geezers for the rest of my days!

So good to see all the good buds, new friends, people I knew before but got to know better.....

What an epic trip!

I think that fleece is TJ's. If its green and Patagonia.

You can ship it with MY rope bag/backpack. You know what I'm talking about, Olson. Don't deny a man his AR rope bag.

Oh, the Busch beer is mine too.

I've seen the photos! They are awesome! You guys really look like you know what your doing. We have been working on editing them. It's tough to delete any since there are so many great ones! Since he took almost 1000 photos we had to delete some. I am sure you will be in one of them though. Oh and yes epic indeed I'd say:)
