After reading “I already have a price in mind” I thought your post was going to lead to how much he would sell the wood to you for. He must have really swallowed some pride to even make the call.
Reminds me of when we got an “emergency” call at dinner time from our former social studies...
To me, (because you asked) this kinda comes down to two factors that lean heavily to hedge quality…shade tolerance and the tendency to sprout new growth on old wood. Neither species in question is high in either category.
IMO, I would suggest phasing out the trees over time and replacing with...
We had a similarly sized Silver Maple go down in town over a month ago. The trunk is still lying there right along the top of a steep bank above the sidewalk. The crown is gone but the heavy trunk remains. While arguably stable, I’m about to offer removal pro-bono.
I love the grapple pic. Made me think of ‘Kids in the Hall’ skit, I’m crushing your head.
Quite a job though. Long lateral material is almost more challenging than something tall and narrow, especially when dealing with all the hazards. Nice job!
That, and having a father daughter day! My little ones really love shuffling trucks around in the yard, or helping run the excavator. Gotta keep them aware of what all we get up to from dawn to dusk.
There’s nothing quite like the right tool in the right workspace. Reminds me of some tables I got from a manufacturing business that was shutting down and liquidating. They has some heavy tables with all sorts of holes drilled and tapped in the top for all the fixtures. They ended up being more...
I think we were looking at the same clouds yesterday! Nice job on the tree. That one photo looked like the leader was in mid-fell but nay. Big stump! Looks like one of those 3 hour crowns followed by 5 hours of raking!
I feel like all wheelbarrow tires should be made of solid rubber with proper “inflated” feel. There’s nothing quite like the seldom used tool that’s never really ready to use.
Wow, I learn something every day. It’s honestly fascinating to hear about something that works in a pinch that I wouldn’t imagine to be worth trying. Gonna have to add a frw plugs to my trucl box.
We heard a tire go on a lowboy across the street a few days back and everyone turned to see. I...
Yeah baby. I think you will like those boxes. I drove one of those for about 5 years. Welder up on one side, air compressor up on the other side, big fuel tank behind the cab, and lots of tools. It served as a decent day to day support vehicle for the tub grinder and excavator.
Looks like quite a radius. Nice job, and hey, no one ever got hurt by picking too small.
Those Tadano units are cool. Apparently a little tricky to work on also. All Japanese above the turntable and all German below.
