Saw this one today, a sealed over/'living stump' with a sapling growing out of it:

We get those here too although I don’t think I’ve ever seen a sapling growing out of one. That’s cool!

Looks like the freak Doug-fir I hoped to have found is a "Skagit Weeper".

Pacific Madrone that ate a 8-9mm marine grade rope used for a tree swing. Quite incredible the rope was still in tact and the swing still standing.

A "living stump" that either eroded down the shoreline cliffside or washed ashore. Can see the root grafts fully in-tact with a root from another Doug-fir still attached.

I removed this bald cypress last November. I found yesterday that the log has started sprouting out, going on 9 months since it's removal.

When I was a kid driving through the redwoods, vendors had roadside stands and they would sell cut burls. Little bigger than a half a baseball. Instructions were to set them in a plate of water cut side down and they would sprout a mini forest. Ofcouse they would eventually die, but mine lasted a good few years
