Not that I can see. What do you mean?
"But please stay the hell out of the few and non renewable OG, they deserve that respect."
I linked the quote in post #38 in this thread but here is the URL in full...
Yes, he explicitly stated such in the opening of his post in a way that no one could miss.
"Good morning, All. In a couple weeks I’m heading off to the real Northern California to climb an old growth Redwood."
@rico and @evo you both replied to Zebco Kid in that earlier thread and did not admonish him that I can see. Did something change your attitude in less than a year or am I still missing the distinction here?
How are you defining old growth? Do you mean all the trees in an old growth area or...
I may have found someone selling the old Notch Sentry Floating D harness, unless it's a scam site. Is this likely to be a satisfactory recreational saddle or a waste of money?
Looks like it is a scam, but the question remains if this is a useful (style of) saddle.
In continuation of my recreational efforts I ordered a Notch Big Shot. Is there any problem with using this on the thin-wall Jameson B-Lite fiberglass poles?
I am confused by the outrage expressed in this thread. Is it the commercialization of this activity or the activity itself that is being objected to? In 2023 @Zebco Kid asked about ropes for climbing old growth Redwood and people just offered advice. Clearly I am missing something.
@Bart_ What dates of revision are you seeing on up to date versions? GlobalSpec shows EN 364 January 1, 1992 as current, so I guess EN 358 is of more interest. Translating the 2021 Russian version of that standard which claims to be identical to EN 358:2018 I see only 1000 mm drop tests.
I did use a throwbag on my lanyard and I still struggled. Watching me flail and fail would have been like watching someone trying to tie his shoes for ten minutes I imagine.
If I get to a point where the next branches are too small for me to trust and the nearest large union is too difficult...
@levi r Thanks for asking. There haven't been any recently as I have been spending myself hiking and wading.
The trees in the local park that were good for climbing in winter leafed out into bushy oaks by summer and I decided I couldn't climb those safely even if I wanted to as I could not...
