    Stihl ms200t

So far he has not pulled it apart to get a good look at the cylinder. But the rings look pretty bad when viewed thru the exhaust.

    Stihl ms200t

Speaking of 200T's, a good friend of mine has a very low time 200T that he messed up by running a tank of regular gas through it. He caught his mistake but not until the saw got hot and scored the piston rings and cylinder. The saw still runs but is pretty sick. Does anybody have any advice...

    Shrink Tubing

I am arriving late to this party, but I get all of my heat shrink tubing from Buyheatshrink.com in Florida or Heatshrink.com in Utah. They carry all kinds of colors and both adhesive and non adhesive varieties. I buy it in 4' sticks, which typically run about $5.00 per stick.

Renesting a fallen Great Horned Owl

Owl boxes can make a difference, especially in areas where natural cavities are rare. For example, in much of Finland the majority of Ural owls nest in boxes and there is a small army of citizen climbers who maintain the boxes every year. Check out this link of barred owls using a box.

Renesting a fallen Great Horned Owl

As a wildlife biologist I think that wildlife rehabilitation is really just a drop in the bucket compared to all of the mortality that occurs in wildlife populations. BUT I also know that efforts to rehabilitate wild animals makes people feel like they are at least trying to make up for all of...

    Chainsaw gaiters with caulks.

Does anybody want these? I will give them away as long as you pay postage from Corvallis, OR. They were worn one time and have been in my shop for years. The tag says they fit size 9-10 US, but they will actually fit 9-11. They come with a wrench for replacing the caulks. They are kind of...

Breaking Splices, Sewn Eyes and Other Strange Things.

Hi all. I am not a big fan of figure eight knots in tree work, but this video is really interesting.

Brotherhood Tree old growth redwood climb

I have tried them all and my favorite tool for rigging big trees continues to be a scope-mounted crossbow and heavy duty spinning reel. Bigshots and APTA's are not nearly as accurate or efficient. I do mostly rigging for research and rec climbing, with an occasional take-down in conifers...

Beeline Blue - Youtube splice video

Sometimes if the taper is not perfect it can create a weak spot at the end of the taper. So, it is not unusual for a splice to break at that point. Brocky is right on in that regard.

Beeline Blue - Youtube splice video

Good question. I have never asked any of the manufacturers, but when I have tested my own I have tested them in a basket hitch configuration, since that is how they are used.

Beeline Blue - Youtube splice video

So it is likely that breaking strength would have been about 2x the observed value if it had been tested in the normal basket hitch configuration. Still not ideal, but not something I would worry about under normal operating conditions. BUT, my rule of thumb is that if any of your used gear...

Did you test these in a basket hitch configuration or in a straight-line pull?

Renesting a fallen Great Horned Owl

Although great-horns do occasionally feed on small cats or dogs, it is often hard to tell if those are healthy animals or are scavenged road kill. I once necropsied a dead red tailed hawk that was hit by a car when feeding on a dead cat in the highway. The hawk had a big white cat's foot in...

    Moss Cinching Lanyard prototype

The Akimbo and Bulldog Bone should work really well with the Moss lanyard system because they make it really easy to switch back and forth from SRS to MRS, and can also be sucked up really tight to the spar in the SRS mode. That is a nice feature for spar work. Do you agree or am I missing...

    Moss Cinching Lanyard prototype

Those rat parts are probably not discarded. Owls commonly store excess food on tree limbs and then retrieve it later. They don't waste much. And regarding the Quickie, I was wondering if I send you the Quickie and 65' of brand new Velocity would you be willing to make me a Moss canopy rope...

Renesting a fallen Great Horned Owl

Actually, if you find a bird that is obviously injured or sick you can stick it in a box and take it to a rehab facility. Nobody is going to give you a ticket for that. But if the bird looks healthy and is in a place where it is not likely to get run over or killed by the neighborhood cat, you...
