The SIP Canopy W air are pretty good. Hotter than the cloggers but ok enough. I second the Solidur for being lightweight. A little less durable but worth it. I rotate between 4 different pairs so they all last longer.

Your path sounds similar to mine. I was a Town Forester working for minimum wage before I finished my forestry degree then started at a tree service again for minimum wage ($7/hr) in 1996. Left that to work doing forestry in BC for more than twice the wages. Apprenticeships are there but it is...
It sure is odd and disheartening that the definition of an Arborist is the planting care and preservation of trees yet most of what the general public sees is videos about killing trees and then hyped up slamming big wood into the ground (damaging root systems of nearby trees too). Don't get me...
Have you used in cold temperatures yet. Something like -25 C. That is a normal daily temp for 4 to 5 months for us. Would love it if the batteries lasted but suspect they aren't there yet, so real world experience is what I am hoping to hear about before wasting money in a saw I can't use for so...
Like @Boomslang said you get looked after pretty good for tests etc in an emergency and wait times are long for elective surgery. Quality of care in northern and rural locations though is pretty poor compared to the bigger centers. Actually borders on malpractice at times. But you don't pay for...
I think you are right on track. That is what I do in these situations for an otherwise healthy tree. I would also consider a follow up next spring with fertilization to help recover. Of course seeing some pictures may change that.

That is exactly how I see it. I have been charging for consults for the last 2 years. I don't do estimates unless it is to give a price to remove a tree. They ask any questions and they know it is a consult with a fee. They are told that when they call our office. Since I started charging it...
Hand and toe warmers are great when it drops below -10. Also don't have the vehicle too warm on the way to the jobsite. If you sweat at all before you start you will be cold.

I have my second hernia repair this January. Last one was done back in '98. I have had this hernia just over 2 years now. Does not bother me when climbing but feel the tightness occasionally on the fixed side. I pushed it off 2 times now and told them.do it after Christmas so I will be doing...
Has anybody used the battery powered top handled saws in the cold? Do they last at all? I am thinking they would be poor performance and longevity at -20 C but would love to hear I am wrong.

That is how it is with most of my birch, boxelder and willow prunes. Often I put in a second TIP, particularly on 2 inch stuff.

We climb unless it won't warm up to -20C (-4F) including wind chill. That of course depends on local conditions... some winds get blocked by other trees so I keep that in mind for each climb. I have to keep at it all winter to get through the back log. Would love to take a month off in the...
Thank you for your reply. Glad you did the assessments and gave options to the owner. All we can do is give our recommendations as professionals but the owner has the final decision. Well done job and video. It was a pleasure to watch!
