Relatively new rec climber here and was running a distel when I first embarked on SRT and was having the same problem- it was all or none. The kind folks here encouraged me to try a michoacán and they were right. Setup is blue moon, rope wrench, epicord e2e and hitch climber. 180# + gear. Try...
Reporting back on the supremacy of michoacán... Far superior to the distel and others I’ve tried with the RW. Thank you all!
Was reading another RW thread and saw a suggestion to push the wrench up slightly at the end of your ascent, before weighting your harness, to prevent setback that will...
I use the Shizl on my lanyard (11mm PMI with 8mm armor purs distel) and its smooth as butter. The Shizl really is... the Shizl. Never tried it on my main line though.
When you are working (and not self employed, small fam biz or otherwise exempt from OSHA) you are subject to their standards. If a standard does not exist for a given hazard, unsafe act or condition, they will use the Standard Duty Clause. Look it up, Section5(a)(1). If an OSHA standard does not...
I have a loops of #36 bank line hanging from TIPs in two oak trees in my yard. Measured the loops to hang right to the ground and use a scrap piece of PT 4x4 with an eye bolt to keep them from blowing in the wind (4x4 sits on ground with a little slack in the loop). When I’m ready to climb it’s...
9.3mm epi on bluemoon. I don’t think it’s the hitch though... almost as if the wrench gets canted ever so slightly causing the rope to freeze for a sec. Only happens on the initial transition from ascend to descend and once it releases it starts and stops smooth all the way down. I’m not...
Thanks all for input. I feel I must try the Michoacan now and report back. Have a petzel william and it does fit everything much better. Will likely try the hitch pin method too, just needed confirmation I wasn’t missing something. Good to have options.
Follow up Q: when descending with the...
Greetings. Finally made the leap to SRT and could use some advice. Using a rope wrench with dual tether fix on bluemoon with 28” epicord eye to eye distel and a hitch climber... looking for advice on cleaning up/configuring the hitch climber.
Placing the dual tether fix and eye to eye through...
Newer rec climber. Used petzl and BD for years gym climbing and around the house and yard. Recently purchased some rock exotics and am very impressed with the finish and feel. Super smooth action and the downward motion is more intuitive and easier to perform. Have not tried the DMM Os... yet.
I’ve tried the accessory cord-prusik-pulley for tending and find the hitch climber much easier. Better alignment, no adjusting necessary before descending, and easier to advance the main line.
Should have clarified the permanent TIP... not so much a TIP but an easy way to install my rope: I’ve...
Finally did it. Upgraded to an eye to eye and added a hitch climber pulley. Much smoother climbing and easier to descend. Slightly concerned at first about the sewn eye interfering with the hitch but it does t seem to be an issue. Any pointers or suggestions there?
Installed a permanent TIP...
I started with PMI EZ Bend 11mm and it held a 5/3 Blake’s in DdRT. As Brocky mentioned an eye to eye prusik was much better - I used a Sterling 8mm - but just the rope and a Blake’s (or double Blake for self tending) is a very simple and easy way to get up 20ft and out of sight of whatever...
Haven’t rec climbed in public yet - thankful to have plenty of trees at home - but the same thought has crossed my mind. Shoulder holster are a no go for me and chest holster seems like it would be in the way and a bit too tacticool for my preference. I’d prob go with a small cross body shoulder...
Thanks for the responses (and lack of flaming). Should have mentioned I’m using a rock climbing harness while saving for a tree harness.
The idea is to use a webbing runner to extend my belay loop (basket or girth hitch). From the end of the runner connect to the main line via prusik or vt...
Hi All! First post, so get the flame throwers ready... Have a question about split tail setup. Do I have to use climbing line for the tail? Seems like most examples are a 5-6’ piece of line blake hitched to the main line. Why not just attach your friction hitch directly to the running end...
