I have, and only once. I was running the rope, and didn’t pull in the slack for the fraction of a second it was in free fall. I learned instantly from that, and have never lost a half wrap since. I also managed to stop the 10’ long 16” fir log before it hit, but scary.

I have heard that the resins harden like glass after lightning stike and they get way harder to cut. Like, keep a bunch of extra chains for that day level hard.

Yea that looks super fresh. It's obviously seen minimal wear, so if they're just replacing it... that is not gonna be sustainable for them if they are actually wearing out that fast, and their plan is to replace them one at a time
There are now several established methods for doing parallel core splices. I have yet to attempt one, but it's just been a little while since I really needed to splice anything
