X-rigging rings

ummm, Bixler, he was asking if we put out anything bigger than 3/4". That is 3/4".
A good sling by ABR, not Xtreme Arborist Supply.

Cool the amsteel seem excessive but would be strong.

But david I thought you preached tenex cause of the heat. But I like the smooth db why the amsteel change of heart?

Not trying to rock the boat, just wondering?

Also does your new splicer make custom slings like this to order?

Yes, I preached tenex because of the heat. It's strong, not expensive and good heat resistance. Tenex Tec makes sense to use. I still think it would be a mistake to got with regular dyneema for the general public. I've taken readings of rings in the sun doing nothing but soaking up heat and they get to 120 degrees F and dyneema degrades at 150 degrees F they say. You can definitely get the rings 30 degrees warmer during rope running. hot day in the sun and using the rings can equal 150 degrees no problem, sounds like degradation is feasible with dyneema to me. We are not going to sell anything with raw dyneema for ring slings and I advise that others do not as well.

You were asking about even stronger creations, so, I thought you could go with amsteel II Plus. Notice the II (two). It has a jacket over it like a double braid bull rope, I haven't tested with heat, but this would very likely stop heat from getting to the dyneema. Plus it's freakin' ONE inch. 57,000 lb average breaking strength I think. I know a little about it because I bought 600 feet of it. Awesome crane slings we made out of it and great for a static guy line on terrible leaning or rotten trees. I might have 180 feet left on the spool not touched yet. Expensive as HECK!

KevinS, I see I didn't answer everything you asked: yes, this splicing company I'm very happy to work with does custom orders.
If you like double braid and 3/4" is enough, you could buy that ABR/treestuff one that Bix showed.
Or you could buy the original 9 foot double braid from TreeStuff or Xtreme Arborist Supply.

AND THEN if you wanted the same configuration as the ABR/TreeStuff One, you just Add the Extra large Beast 38x28 ring to the spliced eye, Then you have yourself the Ring and Ring like the ABR TreeStuff one, but you aren't limited. You can still make it a choking single ring redirect. You also have 9 feet to your advantage. You stick the beast in that black chafe sleave eye you see above, then use some junk cordage to trap the beast in the eye.

Why don't you call me or do you skype? That way we can go over everything. It's spring and unfortunately I don't have the time to be on the buzz.

I've got so much to share with you all, but no time to share it yet. Got many interesting jobs on video too, no time to edit. {you've heard me say that before, but it's true none the less}
I did a Sunday tree removal in New York a few weeks ago with co-ring user Lawrence Schultz. He invited me up to experience a city tree removal.
Decent size white oak they claimed was pushing a foundation.
Anyway, Lawrence is fairly fast to edit and put out a video (he tends to be a "few weeks later" compared to my "few years later" time line). He doesn't have the software to put out a George Lucas production, but I think the work is solid enough to make a good video and he put together a great short video from that day.
I'm glad he put it out. Just released it today, take a look. Gives a glimpse of my current rigging techniques and Lawrence is similar to my style in many ways.

oh..... and don't forget to increase screen size by clicking on the square in the bottom right corner of the youtube frame and increase the resolution to 720 by clicking the gear symbol.

Great stuff, interesting to see the solutions you guys come up with to manage some decent size wood over sidewalks etc. Not just dropping stuff in a field for sure.
Dammit, I need more rings!
Thanks for posting

x would i be able to get an XL ring spliced on to one of the 9 foot double braids instead of the Large ring? how much better do the tenex loopie slings hold on the longer tenex sling over the double braid?

Dmm,
Sure. Write us at XtremeArborist (at) yahoo.com

Put in the "@" of course.

"How much does the tenex loopie sling hold over the double braid? "
I'm not sure what you mean. Ask in another way?

Riggs, that's what my 3 yr old son says when he's finishing at the toilet; "I shake it off, shake it off". No joke, he came up with it himself after hearing that song.

Kinda been letting it fly about how good Xrings are to me in another thread ,but I should say here as well ,the xrings absorb and disperse some heat from friction as to not let your lowering device absorb it all and transfer that to the rope is what I think occurs. As far as ground installation is good if you really trust the tree your rigging on /to and you can actually isolate the anchor point easily , spending twenty minutes on ground trying to set through thick canopies can piss me off when I could climbed up in ten minutes .Depends on the tree I suppose . I personally prefer to climb /inspect/ everything below and up to /at the anchor point to set rig and ring for an example ,but not having to go back up and get them rings in basket configuration is cool for retrieval. Obviously you gotta be picky with trying to not smash them on hardscapes and shit like that. Could always hitch throw line on small ring side for control let down ,just seems to always tangle up somehow with rigging if not routed carefully.
