X-rigging rings

Nice pics tony. Did a weeping sequoia in the summer, same script, only I used a figure8 instead of a block to catch the head.

Was that a climbing job or were you using a bucket?

Reg,

Bucket. I used alterna mats to get just off the drive so the truck was pinched between me and the chip truck. Made for a real efficient set up.

If necessary, I could have used a neighboring tree to tie in, but the rope angle would have been To the less than desirable side. So I hit the easy button! I may be gettin' old!

diagram 2, two rings. Same bend radius:

Physics says two rings are not the same as one and there are differences other than temperature.

The bend takes place over a longer section of rope with two rings Vs. one. The rope only seeing 90° of bend at each ring with even a small distance between the radii results in reduced rope stress similar to what is seen in larger Vs. smaller pully rigging.

Any more insights on this topic? Unfortunately I am not too much into the capstan equation myself... ;)

I also think even if technically the bend radius isnt improved (because the radius isnt changing for sure), the weakening of the rope is reduced because the bend is "separated" into to 90° sections.
What about pulley efficiency, I'd say its lower, but I do not even know if you can call/see it like this because its not a rotating pulley. Is there such a thing like efficiency for a not rotating pulley? Is that maybe part of the cap. equation?
Is it understandable what I mean at all?!

Got a link or pdf of those articles? I was in high school when that first one was published...... I still thought I was going to be a pro football player at the time so tree work articles were not too important to me.

LOL, TCI mag no longer has those older issues after they moved a few years ago...not sure about Arbor Age mag.

I will see if I can scan the articles and get them posted.

reg, why a figure instead of a block?

So that double the impact was not put on the rigging point, such as when a block is used. (Someone should explain this futher, I don't have time right now, but it's a great question that should be explained better.)

however, the negative I see is that you are using less rope in the system, therefor less energy absorbsion.

maybe the best of both words, use rigging rings the whole way, use a tripple XRR as the terminal point too. Rings add a little friction here and there so that double the weight of the peice isn't put on the terminal rigging point.

I've never used a total friction device at the terminal point, like a figure eight or port-a-wrap, so I don't know much about that, Reg or someone who does it a bit is better to answer on how things react.

Sorry i haven't gotten back to this thread on the other questions, trying to bang out some jobs before TCIA WMC and get the video done.

hopefully be able to release video tonight and that will answer some questions.

last week I took down this Oak , split from Sandy , got worse and than they decided they had to deal with it , so it became a rush job . The main stem was split , could have got a crane but they had limited budget , I tied it , strapped it , and lowered the whole tree off of the lowere lead to the back over a yard that was as tall as the tree ,

no big deal , simple rigging job , I would have never mentioned it except for this reason . I used the fishing pole on the lower limb and , I used the bone , the x rings and my new amsteel half inch adjustable sling I made . I smoked that tree ,it never had a chance . The other trees were scared .

Riggs is the real deal.

And he still stays very busy, that's why things are summarized and quick.

He's been using and abusing the XRR slings he has I'm sure. He sends me some texts and pictures now and then like, "X-Rigging Rings getting some". "They are strong, know that". "X rings pass another test".

I knew Riggs would like them when he explained to me at tci expo that he did/does the same thing with steel clevis for years. Just that they were heavy and maybe heat up.

Okay Guys and Gals,

Finally an informative video on the X-Rigging Ring slings.

I tried to make it short, just so much to show, it couldn't be short.

I didn't even get into block use with a sling.

This video is educational on the XRR slings.

NOT ENTERTAINMENT.

It's for people that are considering buying a sling or two OR for the people that already own them.

Again, not very entertaining; I did try to squeez in some action clips, but there wasn't much room to fit them in.

I think it's a must see for possible consumers and users.

Haters can enjoy by picking apart too if they want.

I will try to put action shots together tonight for Part TWO and post it too.

Fantastic video for working information. I can see more applications of the basic X Rigging Ring Slings I already have and several things I want to be able to do with the X Whoopie and the X Loopies I will soon get. I feel guilty, I should offer to send you out for a great dinner for the time I’ve already saved on jobs with XRR’s. Instead I’m going to be greedy for now and use the money to put in an order for more. I know you’re pushing it to get the info. out along with work and everything else-thanks it makes a difference.
