Although I do not see how that pertains to a modern day evaluation of the 2nd amendment.
 
I feel the same way (fearful or worried of the state's power), except I am 99.9% sure that rifles will do/have done nothing to protect us from the state should they choose to turn the war machine upon us, or act tyrannical (as they have more or less from the start.) We missed the chance for a people's check on the government close to 100 years ago. Ludlow was a tiny attempt at this, more self defense, but still, and the guns helped for a bit, although the national guard had Gatling guns and the miners only rifles, in the end the national guard and the mine bosses won.

That’s the year after my father was born: hardly ancient.

I have a close friend who’s Grandmother fled the region in a horse drawn wagon under hay to immigrate to America during the early days of WWII.

Most of her Relatives didn’t survive the war.

Just to be clear, are you making a case for the idea that a USA population armed with ar15s can/could/would be able to protect itself from/overthrow tyrannical US government?
