Today....

A chunky pin oak removal from this week. The tree was 100' tall and somewhere near 48"dbh. The second to the last log pick (laying horizontal in the second pic) was 9700lbs. A little heavier than we had intended, the line strength on the crane is 10,000lbs.

What else are you going to do with sweat gum? There's much better stuff around here to make stuff out of. I'm just glad to see it stay out of the dump. That's where most of the sweat gum ends up. No one even wants it for firewood.
Not saying there isn't better wood, but when I see a decently girthy, straight log of anything that's got some character to the heartwood, I just wanna make some cabinets, bed frames, amp housings, etc.

I know what you're saying though; people throw away black walnut, English walnut, Cedar, Fir, white oak, black oak, blue oak... you name it, people throw it away.

Nice half day of work on a Sunday! Nasty 210 ft back-leaning fir.

Hella work there. These lil cabins in the woods surrounded my massive trees, do they get squished alot from storm damage or not so much cuz all the trees work together. Or a lil of both?

They do get squished from time to time, but not as often as you would think. I will say that when its wet and really blowing down here the wife and I grab the dogs and get the fuck out.

Hi, my name is Ben and I collect interesting wood in an ambitious and optimistic hope that someday I could make something out it even though I live in a constant time deficit.
Hi, my name is Eric and I collect cool pieces of wood. I used to have a pile of wood and another pile of intention. Then I finally got a saw mill. I thought that would make everything ok, but now I have an even bigger pile of wood and pile of intention, but somehow less and less time.
