This is the Akimbo

@ngcook1985; That was a really interesting pair of posts. Thanks for sharing your perspective in this situation.

With regard to creating new screen names for each device, if you enter just the one screen name and password, I think most devices have the ability to remember the information so that it's easier to log in the next time. You probably already knew that, but I thought I'd mention it just in case.

Thanks again for sharing the viewpoint of an experienced Unicender user. It is one device I have not had the opportunity to try out.

I think I now know the real reason you keep changing your identity! You need to lighten up a bit. Also, why would you have purchased and used 5 or so unicenders if you hate them so much. Please think about what you are trying to achieve by posting publicly... you are not going to change anyone’s minds with the attitude you have now. If you have valuable information to share, I would suggest doing it in a constructive way rather than all the hate. Just a thought.

Because nothing tends like the Uni, RE left it up to the user to finish it by drilling and bolting bits on. Even Morgan had advertised on his site a Uni with hardened stainless wear points, something RE should have been on top of within the first year of production. I was going through them in 8 months and that’s using 11.7mm then 13mm to maximise longevity. Then to have to send them back to the US to have them rebuilt (I’m in Australia) and wait 6 to 8 weeks was just not an option. It was easier to just purchase a new one.

I appreciate your explanation. I am aware of the frustration with the unicender and how it wears etc. I am a huge Rock Exotica fan and have met Morgan in person and I believe the unicender was ground breaking when it was first introduced. Now knowing more about single line friction solutions and how to simplify this for a multiscender I find the other devices available to be more efficient for working a tree. The unicender was way ahead of its time and that pushed other devices forward. I do not think that Rock Exotica launched the unicender with any ill intent. I do see your predicament as they haven’t taken the steps to solve the wear point issue. I don’t know the whole story, but Morgan is a great guy and he has been very present and still is to this day on interacting with RE.

Thanks Tuebor, I guess Rock stopped making them. I would have wanted one if they were reasonably priced, but I don't remember seeing it. Perhaps the Hook is why it seems to be discontinued.

Hey, Flex! You shouldn't feel too badly about missing the GoFundMe for the Akimbo. If I'm recalling correctly, it was a fairly astonishingly short window of opportunity to get in on it. Once Jaime started it off, the money came pouring in so fast it scared him, and he had to slam the door hard to get it to stop. No opportunity for indecision on the part of the people who got in. They all pounced on it like a lion on a piece of meat.

And the rest of us are left to pick at the carcass lol

Dare I even ask? Has anyone tried it on KM3 13mm? Does it have that extra half a millimeter of adjustment to fit this fat, blue bastard? Even the RopeWrench is so tight on it, I'd have to eat cheesecake 5 times a day to get up to weight to descend on it. Then I wouldn't be able to back up, again. It's a nice, firm 32-strand kernmantle.

Hey, @JeffGu! The above quote is from page 47 of this thread, and what I'm about to ask is probably a derail of this thread, but here goes anyway. First, who sells this 13mm rope in blue? (Link, please?) Also, I thought you were primarily a Rope Wrench climber? So if this rope did not work well with the Rope Wrench, with which device were you using it? Or were you just using it DdRT with a tending pulley, perhaps? How well did you end up liking this rope, overall? It has been awhile since you made the above quoted post, so I figure you've had a decent amount of time on it. Apologies if you've already answered these questions in the intervening pages. Any insights you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Tim

P.S. Thanks for mentioning the size of the rope and the color of the rope in the above-quoted post. For some reason all I've ever seen is orange, and I thought it was of a smaller diameter. But that may have been KM3 Max I've been looking at, or something. I think they might not even spell out the size of the rope on Teufelberger's own website, so your mention of the size was helpful.

@FreeFallin make a video of retracing your steps and we will all keep our eyes out for it. Another set of eyes...or a few hundred wouldn't hurt... I'm sure there are enough of us, starved for the Akimbo, willing to look for it. I really am sorry, that's so very depressing.

@FreeFallin you might have already checked but.....freezer, window siles, clipped to ladder you used to reach eye bolt. Hopefully it will lead to discovery.

Man, I pulled the freezer out from the wall and combed through all the storage boxes in the garage in case it fell in one.

I called everyplace I visited that week and had them check their lost and found -

"Hi Applebees? I'm looking for a piece from an alien space craft that I might have dropped in a booth there..."
