Petzl Sequoia.....

Ahhhhh. thank you.

Did anyone try it on, and hang from it?

The straps from the leg loops to the rings looks alot shorter than the straps from the belt to the rings, but sounds like they might be adjustable.

looks cool though.

At the show I was unable to really see if this saddle was a ball cruncher or not like the other petzl saddles.
I sure liked it.
For the first time the manufacturers have made a forged alum. ring that can be opened!
This is a new innovation!

...and the second picture of the alum. ring detail

How the heck do you get pictures to come up on the forum screen rather than as an attachment?

Here is a thought.... How about if each saddle was made in a true component design?

Then we could mix and match different saddle components from different manufacturers and create our own personalized saddle?!

One of the biggest drawbacks I see is that each manufacturer makes a saddle which is designed to fit a wide (no pun intended) variety of body types.
By 'mixing and matching', the individual climber could create the perfect saddle for their own climbing style and body type.

Looks very nice. I wonder how the rings open?

There is a hidden screw in the side of the ring, that goes through the rubber boot. Once removed, the rubber washer comes out, and the ring can be mover farther back or forward. It was really cool to see an adjustable ring.

Can't wait to hear how it hangs. I think I want one of these real bad.

I went to the show with the intention of purchasing a Tree Flex from Bailey's. I sat in both the Tree Flex and the Petzl. The Petzl won out for me. It felt super comfy right off the stand. It's crazy light and it is just so well thought out. Tons of places to mount caratools and beefy gear loops as well. The ridged, ultra breathable back pad makes sense in my AZ location. I was so excited when I saw it I was jumping up and down raving about how excited I was that Petzl finally got it. The rep hooked me up with a AMD ball lock for my enthusiasm. I have spent the last few days with our Sherrill rep. The word they have is mid-January for release and just under $300 for a price. I do have to say that I was not able to spend much time with the Tree Flex. With some time to adjust I'm sure it would fit like a glove as well.

Why a hard rubber or plastic insert in the ring thogh? Seems like a bad spot for a wear point?! Would'nt aluminum be a little more appropriate? Looks like a really comfy ride though...bit more affordable than the motion too!

some of the webbing looks kinda light. I wonder about wear issues that have brought up with the TM.

I have two climbers who use the vario/navajo models and that is the model I started climbing with.

One thing I have noted for sure is that even though petzls are light, and seem to be of light construction, they have performed flawlessly for our people, they have out worn all other saddles we have used and are anything BUT weak and flimsy.

The vario and austensibly the sequoia saddles are descendents of the petzl rescue/industrial harnesses which are the toughest available bar none imho.

Not that I am overly anamoured or biased towards the sequoia (oops pardon the drool) but I really think that Petzl has hit a home run with this new saddle.

It has everything I wish the vario had and then some.

And for under $300 who can beat that?!

(there I go, drooling again!

Hey, thanks for that input. I've used (and abused) a few Petzl rock climbing harnesses, but I have always wondered about Petzl industrial harnesses. Never even had the chance to try one on. Hopefully I'll get that chance with the sequoia, because it does look sweet.

That a boy Gerry- keep it simple. That sounds like a BF2 saddle setup. I wonder which tree climbers had input on that saddle? What a great idea. I did like the saddle however, good point about the rings and that plastic wear point, and what about the rating?

Been hanging in a petzl vario for the past 17 years, mostly Mountain Rescue. I have used the vario in the trees for the past 3 years. I have tried other arborist harnesses but they just dont seem to feel right. RFWOOD will get his harness right after I get mine. Keep it Safe.
