Petzl Sequoia.....

Let's start a letter writing campaign and tell them to get lost!

Leave us arbs alone!

Just because they don't have experience specifically in this field doesn't mean they can't help the community. In fact, they're one of the most innovative companies out there for any type of rope access, arb or otherwise. Plus, they're upstanding with testing and quality control.

Good point. I change my mind again. Let's not start a letter writing campaign.

No wait,

I want to go back to my original sarcastic response......

I'll start writing a draft letter to verbalize Grover and mine's disappointment with Petzl's decision to trod all over the arb world with their products and co-opting names of national parks and stuff.

Fhfr436, lemme guess, you're voting for Rudy, right?

SZ

Fair enough.

I appreciate your response to my jab. I was out of line, as who you vote for is none of my business, and has nothing to do with my quasi-serious letter writing career.

The 'Sequoia' name = cynical attempt by French company to exploit American's love of their natural treasures.

We've seen it before when someone attempted to assimilate the term 'Yosemite' into the humble Bowline.

I can see them all now in their little Petzl skyscraper in Paris, they're having one of those brain storming sessions coming up with evermore sneaky ways of infiltrating our beloved industry with their inherently negative ulterior motives. There next harness will be called 'Sassafras' to cater for the East Coasters. Sickening....just sickening.

They're actually located in Crolles - suburb of Grenoble:

From the satellite, it's hard to tell if whether all of the buildings are made of ivory or not.

Regional product names - I love it! It'll be just like the Fords (and other brands) that have a Euro model and a US model that differ only in the name badge.

There's another French company called MAVIC - they make bike racing components. French bike components have a notorious reputation for being finicky and sometimes having their own standards, incompatible with the rest of the market. We interpreted this to be just the stereotypical snooty French attitude and combined these concepts to yield this saying: "MAVIC - Made by People Who Don't Like You."

Sorry for the tangent. I don't think Petzl's being cynical at all. It's an interesting marketing scheme though. Take a name familiar to Americans and apply it to a new product being marketed toward a specific market segment, much of which is American. Additionally, I think the name Sequoia is not intended to reference the park, but rather the namesake tree, which is symbolic of strength and stability.

Plus, it's better that some of their names: TREESBEE, GRILLON, STRING, OSCILLANTE - give me SEQUOIA please.

grigri-Recreationally, it refers to any implements that aids in the act of making love.
I used one for traversing the face of a bluff yeaterday to throw prunings to the bottom for chipping. Not only do I not know how to utilize the Grigri according to definition I am certain that my wife DOES NOT want me to try to figure it out!
