Gerry Beraneks 090 up for auction!!

[ QUOTE ]
Hear Ye, hear Ye, Stihl 090 on Auction!

It Stihl runs strong, believe it or not. As a matter of fact I was using it the day I got my foot crushed by that outrigger. Flush cut a 7 foot tulip poplar and that nearly killed me.

The signifigance that the saw runs isn't so important more than its track record, and the proof of that is, most of the big trees this saw has been use on has been recorded. The Rockport tree being probabley the most noted, but there have been many others too. If you have the "150 foot up" poster from Bailey's then you've seen the saw.

Comes with the original 84" bar with a full skip chain. Bought at Bailey's in 1976. Yes, the saw and bar is 31 years old. Makes me feel funny when I say that. Also included is a photo Album of the big trees it cut.

Cool stuff!! Thanks for posting it Steve! It will be interesting to see where this legendary saw ends up!

You gotta be kidding me right? legendary saw? it's a freakin inanimate object!!

You must be losing your mind like the rest of society to talk about a chainsaw in that manner.

Listen up!

Feeble as it may be today, the feeling of sharing a common destiny with other living things is embedded in the human psyche. Those of us who struggle to conserve what is left of the environment are moved by the love of living things, it's the frail bond of feeling that ties humankind to the Earth.

So you worshipping a 2 stroke petrol chainsaw aint gonna help us out of the sh*t were in my friend.

'legendary chainsaw' - get a grip

Hmmm,

Lets see.

Jerry B injured then auctions his saw.

MB injured and auctions also.

Why is it that TB seems to have so much negativity? Sir Beranek auctioning off his famous saw is a pretty unusuall event, and has recieved nearly 128 positive post so far. Here, it has descended into the usual $hit within 4 posts.

As for 'Anton', I got to wonder why Tom keeps tolerating these reincarnations / alter ego's of Axeknot, Grover etc.

The day I was injured by that outrigger crushing my foot I used that 090 and 84 in bar to flush cut a 7 by 9 foot tulip poplar stump. And I said right there, even got it on video, "I'm going to sell this saw, it's just too much for me to work anymore."

The weight, constant tourque and vibration just tears me up now. When I was a younger it didn't bother me near as bad.

So it's up on the block. The whole kit and kaboodal.

The support I've received has been great. Nothing short of fantastic. Can't understand why anybody would get sour about it. But that's just me.

Anton,

Do you have a clue about history? Good or bad, right or wrong...the saw that Jerry is auctioning off has a place in logging and arborculture history.

Your comments are pretty dang brash and insensitive. If you have a social commentary to make...take it Off-Topic.

Mark and I agree to let people post without editing for the most part. Attacking other people is not appreciated and will likely end up being deleted along with posters who continue the inconsiderate behavior.

It's surpassed that last week. 30% is going into a fund for uninsured tree workers.

[/ QUOTE ]

Do you mind disclosing what specific fund that would be? Proceeds would be deductable and taxable at the same time.

Nah, that's the stuff coming outta all those injured feet over at TH.

That's 3 now I'm aware of.

Oh, ... full house tonight.

Read my posts mate, and keep reading till it sinks into your scull. Your post is way off track. COMPREHENSION mate!

Cant Gerry speak for himself? Cant Gerry answer questions?

Over here such a fund would have to comply to some taxation criteria and be registered.

Also, the need for such a fund would be negated by a developed social security net that most prosperous wealthy western countries have implemented in addition to a medical system that caters for all.

Seems whenever questions are raised you guys come running foaming at the mouth. It's reasonable to ask, especially when the forum has members from all over the world. why are climbers uninsured? Why didn't WC pay the bills? Is there a welfare system and did it pay out? Is there fraud and tax evasion which are crimes being committed? Is there hospital/medial coverage? Are those bills paid etc?

These are reasonable questions and when we are so concerned about the right cut in a tree or wearing PPE it's simply intolerable to scrutinize business practices?

Far out, your avatar is very fitting.

Gerry is an icon in this communtity Anton , I've learned much from his passion for the work we do, you on the other hand don't belong among us in this communtity of professionals.
I'm certain he has forgotten more than you'll ever know.

Eric,

Tophopper has once again hit the nail on the head. I am getting really weary of sending you emails asking you to stay on topic. If you have an issue with someone write them an email. It is too coincidental to have you only comment on the happenings at TH. Your points about charities and workers compensation may be valid but you have you have a very disagreeable habit of presenting them in a way that causes every thread to derail.

In a short time I'mm going to come back to this thread and do some housekeeping. When I'm done there will be several posts deleted and edited. Jezz I'm getting tired of housekeeping.
