Gerry Beraneks 090 up for auction!!

Re: Gerry Beraneks 090 up for auction!! *DELETED*

Thank you, Gord

That poster certainly has gone the miles in the last 21 years.

I was looking at your avatar, and judging by the distance between the knot whorls on that DF it appears there was near 6 foot of growth in some of the seasons. That's cranking, but probably not unusual for BC

I've used that technique and craned the pieces with a crane.

What kind of tree was it?

Just curious as I would guess that there are some trees that this technique would not work on.

specifically trees with a soft heartwood, that's if your screwing the lag into the centre, are you?

I too kept track of the $ figure there but kind of lost track. Last I saw it was $5k. Is that stihl accurate?

Indeed it is, I still figure I'll be outbid however. The west coast was mentioning a co-op bidding on the saw.

Gerry, I'm very glad you're on the mend, and I thankyou whole heartedly for your books cd's and films you have been and continue to be an inspiration to me in my small (very small by comparison!) scale climbing here in Oz.

The friend in whose business I work had an identical injury to yours with lesser consequences (the leg on the EWP was lifted almost immediately it pressed down on his foot) only broken bones nothing lost!

You should realise just how far your reach is mate, follow doctors orders and I look forward to hearing about your first climb after the accident soon.

Highest regards Sean Freeman

Hi Jer!
I, like you, have been really busy with travel and other things and missed this thread until now. First, sorry to hear of your injury Buddy. Glad to see it won't keep you from what you love so much. Heal up quick. I hope to come back your way and visit again soon (and maybe create a new "favorite moment in life"- no pressure

)

The auction is a good thing and reminds us of how it is supposed to be. People helping people is a positive thing!

For those who have yet to meet Jerry, I for one would say that he is one of my favorite "meets" of all time. A true gentleman, a legend and all around great guy.

My bet is that you have won a saw!

Congrats!

It was an American elm, 4' diameter. I used three lags per piece, so, no, the lags were not screwed into the center (as Gerry did in his photo). The crane was at the end of its reach so the pieces were very short, basically disks.

Hope you're feeling better soon Gerry!!

If I walk up to a random person on the street and hand them a sum of money, small or large, they are technically supposed to claim that as income on their tax forms. That doesn't mean I can't give the guy the money...it is HIS responsibility to even up with Uncle Sam.

The auctions are a good thing.
