F8 revolver

Just wanted to revisit and see how this system is going. Its been a few months. Is everyone thats tried still liking/using it? Anymore tricks for making it smooth?
Cheers

I'd still like to see some still images of the pieces of your setup, Kevin.

Namely on the beeline extended bridge portion. In places that you have two biners in one spot, did you do two locking brummels or do you just have two biners in one eye?

still climbing with it everyday. been playing around with the lengths a bit and I like longer. I use bee line prussic cord that is double locking brummeled.

here is how I set it up as a footlocking acender. I just flip it around and clip the revolver to my bridge.

Oh I see your question. In the video I did have two biners squeezed through one eye. and the tether girtyh hitched to one of my rings. I was using that way because you can go from extended to short without ever being unclipped.

In the pictures I just showed when going from long to short you have to buck in because there is a point where you open your carabiner. That is a small price to pay for less gear and having one single attachment point.

I have no pictures yet but I have been playing around with setting Srt systems completely under the hitch. I have a small loop runner girth hitched on one of my rings that allows me to extend the tether out even further.

This allows me to clip on the acenttree under the hitch and footlock up like that. Or, one can set up whatever SRT system they find most effecient. The ecender just pushes the hitch climber up the rope. If one prefers the croll to the chest hitch they would still have the hitch easily accessible and remain tied into it the entire time. lots of redundancies possible.
The hitch way up top acts as a back up and still allows for a quick conversion to working the tree.

The F8 tether has to be short enough that you can slide it to full extension as you limb walk and work the tree. The extra loop lengthens the tether when extending the hitch so there is enough room for the acenttree.

I played around with the F8 again using my new acenttree ascenders I got for christmas. I think I finally dialed in this system with the right hitch/rope/tether combo. It was WICKED smooth, not jerky like my other attempts have been. I'm going to give it a full run through tomorrow and try out different ascent methods.

Also been using the hitch above the ascender. Haven't tried out anything like Kevin described, extending it on a long tether. I just clip it to the top hole on my ascender. When I get to my stop, just clip in, unclip the ascender, and bring the hitch down to me.

did some side by side testing and realized that poison ivy works far better than the thinner velocity. I dont know what the reason is for that. but I think the thiner diameter rope makes the bend through the revolver more dramatic and thus makes tending the rig more difficult. Hmmm.

I noticed the same thing about velocity running through the revolver. Much more difficult and it tends to bind up more. I switched to the kong robot instead of using the revolver/ figure 8 set up and it's great. Very smooth, easy on/off and no binding no matter what rope I'm using.

I'm loving this set up. I've been using for a month straight, no drt, no unicender, just the robot, hitch climber, a piece from Rich hattier's anchor bridge and 10mm ocean polyester line. Great set up. Can't wait to get my unicender back to incorporate it into the system (not having to safety in to hook up ascent mode is going to be a huge advantage)

Yeah, about that. Chris actually traded the unicender to me. I gave him three magical beans. I'll make sure he gets those beans to you soon.

LMFAO I said this way back on page 3 and your just getting to it now???? Doof!! You can buy me a six pack one day next month to thank me.

Ed. I bought one last year when you posted the link. Unfortunately it never showed up. Then I bought one from Boston bull and I'm glad I did.

I talked to you about this over 6 months ago. Now who's the doof (what kind of beer do you want? You strike me as a natural ice kinda guy)

yeah ft you said at tci you were going to send me that robot to test it out! thats cool though you put it to work on your own. I guess I gotta try it out now. sounds like a good call Holly.
