F8 revolver

Tom

I'm not so much as "adding" the uni into a f8 system, rather than replacing the f8 system with the uni and flying the uni without my neck tether that I had been using and instead incorporating part of the anchor bridge into the mix.

I use a sling that has two eye splices. one above the other. I girth hitch the sling onto my floating ring, The top hole is connected directly to the hitch, the splice below it has an extra locking carabiner. I use the extra locking carabiner to bring the system closer to me by ascending up to the extra carabiner and hook it to my ring. There is risk of possibly falling that short distance (2 1/2 ft) but if that did happen i am still tied in. I'll try to take pictures today or tomorrow if it helps elaborate a bit more.

Honestly I think that is the biggest downside to the F8 system, having to safety in and switch the system into a descent mode. I've been playing around with different hitch cord/ rope configurations to minimalize how tight the hitch gets when ascending purely on the hitch. I've been having a great amount of success with 30inch 10mm beeline on velocity, 5 wrap vt knot. I can usually descend a solid 10 feet before it gets too tight. I've also remedied these shorter descents with a reverse footlocking technique (lower my body, lock off on the rope, pull the hitch cord down, continue). It works great for small descents when it's difficult to safety in anywhere. This technique probably isn't the greatest idea for every climber but it works well for me

I talked to you about this over 6 months ago. Now who's the doof (what kind of beer do you want? You strike me as a natural ice kinda guy)

If I didn't hate you with every fiber in my body, I would say that's a quality burn.

Finally rocked the F8 at work today and had a blast with it. It was in a medium Maple, with a bunch of branchs to wind around, etc. I was awesome to climb around and have consistent friction throughout the climb. Best part was pulling it all out. Just untied the running bowline on the trunk and pulled it out. No gear to lower or anything.

Yeah I ran it today I foot locked into one oak then swung to another. Then I limb walked and doped into a crotch to reduce the crown of a EWP that was encroaching the oaks. And RD the best part is the nice smooth rid down and pulling out the line.Nice system.

I've been on SRT only for the past few days and loving it so far!! Rocked the F8 again in three different trees today and its working extremely well. Ordered some materials to hopefully streamline my system a bit more. I'll post up some pics of my system when I get it all streamlined.

might as well try the kong robot thingamajig if your buying gear right now. I also hear that the Yates belay slave works well. I have yet to try it.

I think that is whats cool about this method of climbing is that it seems to me there can be as many variations and combinations as there are ways to tie a climbing hitch.

Treebeing.

I've got one (kong robot) coming to ya in the mail as we speak. I liked mine too much to send away so I bought you your own. Enjoy and happy holidays (I hope the address you gave me is current)

Here's my system I've been climbing off of the past few days. Going to replace the loop runner with some 8mm Bee Line, one end spliced the revolver, one to a separate ring I'm adding to my saddle.

Finally got around to splicing up my streamlined set up. Spliced up a new Bee Line eye and eye cord for my friction hitch, and another piece of 8mm Bee Line for the tether. Instead of splicing to a seperate ring on my bridge, I took Kevin's idea of keeping it all one biner and just spliced an eye into the other end, so I could clip it onto my main biner.

Adrian,
How are you setting it up for the initial ascent?
Are you using the b-line tether to the F8 for the ascender and what are you using to extend your climbing hitch?
Pictures are great.

Hey Stacy,

I've been experimenting with different ascent approach's. I'll either foot lock with the ascenders (F8 tether connected to ascenders) or use a Pantin in the same configuration. Hitch is connected to the top hole of the ascender as a backup.

Most recently though, I've been using Kevin's trick of slinging my lanyard around my shoulder and clipping it to my hitch to create a chest ascender or sorts.

These pics explain it a bit better. (By the way, these are Kevin's pics)

I just pulled my gear out with Jesse and I think I got it down to a very simple set up like that. Thanks for the pics.
Now the first warmish weather I'm goin up the oaks at our shop.
