Looks like he totally missed the low side, and that he was shoot for a lay about 90° of the natural lay. Not a good combination on a hard leaner, and the results showed that.

    Mystery problem cutting?

Correct, sort of. You can get away with running a new chain or well filed/ground chain in a pretty loose bar, but if the bar is bent, you will see it with the new chain. It's crazy how loose some of the loggers bars are, I'm talking the ones on their saws, not the ones they go too lol.

    Mystery problem cutting?

Try setting the rakers/depth guages with a progressive guide. When the chain gets worn past half way, those 2 in 1 file setups don't work well. Even worse when the cutters are an uneven lengths. Rakers are set in relation not only to the height of the cutters, but also in relation to the...

Step cut on a smaller red oak. Have to watch back leaners as they can chair also. This one you can clearly see I had pulled it a little much and it started to chair. It's not shown in the video, but I had already stood it up about 8' at the tips. There were multiple branches that were limb...

He's about an 1:15 away, hasn't really worked out to have his help(if that's what you mean), I've contacted him a few times. Be nice to have someone who climbs or with a 72' lift to contract. I actually have a few I'd like some help with real soon, I'll manage if I don't, but it takes a lot more...

Thanks for the response. I've done that, just not retrieved it as the tree was coming down and it was only to set a running bowling. I thought I might need to do that utilizing a tree that I needed to drop first, in order to get another that had a huge bow in it over a barn, ended up there was a...

Because I haven't been in a tree in a couple yrs ;). When I was doing a little climbing it was primarily to reduce canopy width or raise a couple branches to clear a target, then fall them. I do need a good climber that I can contract some work to in the GR Michigan area, I pass up quite a bit...

Yesterday, maasdam pulling against the back lean, and a side line for the with the wyeth Scott power puller. Right in the hole. I wasn't going to use a pull line, but since I was pulling directly against the lean I figured it would be prudent, and that proved to be true since my wedge that was...

Oh yes, the farmers bore cut aka the sloping bore cut lol. I've practiced them on the ground, never really needed to use one when climbing, which is a good thing. Nice job getting those all topped out. Was there a reason you couldn't have dropped that tree right into the field.

I think I'm gonna order one of these. My rope is getting rough, slips in a couple spots. The good thing is I have other options normally, but these can give that small added advantage that reduces risk when the other options would take more time or cause more damage to surroundings.

Just watched the video, nice job. I don't think I'd be too concerned about that limb in there, unless the drop was really tight. Was just noticing how bad my MIL's looks. We've removed a few branches over the yrs, but she hasn't wanted to remove it yet. I'm afraid it will have to loose a large...

Right. They're everywhere. Just saw a lot of different(various lengths of rope) ones on ebay earlier this week.

Got the cherries all down at the campground. Next will probably be a bunch more red oak around a barn that was just completely redone on the exterior, couldn't have done the tree work first lol. There are also a couple smaller ones over the house. Most everything there is hard leaning over the...

Also did this cherry, it's a bit larger. Had quite a bit of side lean away from the spot I took the first two pictures, so I set a line in it to support it(side line). I also used The lower portion of the first stem for the hinge as it seemed they had grown together.

Here's an easy hard maple we did last week, nice when there's no targets. Pretty sure this one wasn't 80" lol.

Nice job. When I first read it I saw 80", I was thinking, I must be measuring them wrong .
