Anybody do the Apprenticeship program through TCIA - either as an employee or employer? (I'm interested from the employer side...bringing somebody on and having a well-planned/intentional program to get them up to speed)...
Hey @Brando CalPankian heard your interview on the wantrepreneur to entrepreneur podcast (for others who want to listen: https://www.thewantrepreneurshow.com/brandon-pankey/ )
Enjoyed listening to your passion for treating people well and doing a great job.
Couple weeks ago, I was planting trees where another company had removed other trees and ground the stumps a few weeks prior. They had lines marked, but those markings were not in good shape. So I put in a new request (which was required by law anyhow).
I got notice that all was clear...also...
I got a call from somebody I don't think I've ever met. Volunteer tree commissioner from a nearby town. I think she asked somebody on staff in the town and they told her to call me. That is to say, I only know what she told me on the phone:
Anyhow...her sister had somebody out to take care...
Just bought an avant ... I picked up their weld-on adapter plate. Was planning to stick it on a set of pallet forks I have.
But I got to thinking - could I make it more universal?
Some googling, I can get adapter latches (or whatever they are called?):
Thinking if I weld the Avant plate to...
Looking at small articulated loaders... Haven't settled on a brand (maybe narrowed down to: Intrepid, Avant, Cast, Case???)
If I go with an Avant, should I get their grapple or is Branch Manager the best bet (or TNAttachments)?
I'm assuming Branch Manager because it opens wider and only...
What's going on here?
City Forester, State Urban Forester, 2 other arborist friends I reached out to, Rainbow sales rep who is often pretty helpful - all never seen it before. I emailed OSU entomologist. He was kind enough to reply after hours on a Friday on his way to vacation: Suggested we...
I'm using Jobber, but same question probably applies to other platforms...
When a new client buys an old client's house, do you:
A) create an entirely new client and keep the old?
B) change the name and contact info for the old client so you have all of the records for that property in one place?
The latest email update from Ohio Chapter ISA has a link to a survey from University of Georgia asking about arborists' experiences with insurance companies and trees...thought I'd post it here if folks wanna participate in that:

I have generally worked with part time/temporary help and, frankly, never really looked hard for another arborist. Decent help has kind of found its way to me through referrals, but nobody "permanent" yet. I had a very good helper for 3 years who came with a Natural Resources degree just...
Has anybody dug into valuing a tree care business? Whether you looked at purchasing or selling...
A common way to value business is to use EBITDA x a factor. Or gross receipts times a different factor. But each industry has its own multiplier factor. What is an appropriate value to use for...
Looking for thoughts/ideas/talk me out of it, etc... (I've never propped a tree before, so just pretend for a moment that you think I'm clueless ;) )
This Weeping Alaska cedar is also a leaning Alaska cedar - and has been for the last 10+ year's I've worked for this client. Clearly poor...
I have a client wanting to start an orchard (sounds like they want to start with 40 acres, then go to 80 acres in a few years).
They are having trouble finding the trees. I've found a few sources just searching...but I also know some of these places don't seem to be really active online (same...
Search turned up a few pages of each, but only one or two posts with both mentioned at the same time. Not much direct comparison.
(Have you used both?)
Which do you prefer? Or just likes/dislikes if you've only used one?
Why?
How are you using it?
Without having used either, a few things I...
Saw this Basswood tree at a logging job this week. Thought it was cool how it split at the co-dominate leader exposing the included bark (I mean, not cool for the logging crew/company who bought the tree and it split...but its one of 200 trees - and they didn't buy this sale for the basswood...
Be careful what gets snagged in the branches. They may grab ahold and not let go!
Don't want to leave your nuts in the tree!
Maple growing around a walnut - assuming it was placed there by a squirrel. No walnut tree nearby.
I've been pretty fortunate that my helpers have come from personal connections...usually just looking for summer help dragging brush. However, for the last +/-3 years I've had a guy helping who started as there but has grown into making this a career path (hoping he passes ISA Cert Arb test...
I know there are some expert hedge trimmers here. We have a tree client who I let him talk me into caring for his taxus hedge as well. It's about 6" over the sidewalk. We've been working on it for probably 3 years now trying to thin enough to spur some inner growth.
Well, this is the year...
Just got a 2.0- with 2.0 Suspenders...couple of questions for those who have used it:
1: It is my understanding (just from a brief mention in this video) that the leg straps can be switched so the buckles are on the outside. Before I watched that video, I put it on and thought they were...
