    Rec climbing in public areas

Hey, I am kind of confused by this. What do you Americans define as a park? Is every public forest a park, or are there "normal" forests that are not a park but are still public? We Germans call a park in a city "park", they are almost never a forest, and climbing is clearly illegal. Every big...

Here's my dream set up, gear wise for Rec Tree Climbing...

That would be TreeFool/ FluffyFish, the guy that posted before you :D I started tree climbing 2 years ago, at age 13. My dad bought 60m of rope , a cheap rock climbing harness and a petzl grigri. He still had some carabiners laying around, so I had all the gear I needed to climb on a RAD...

Taking photos up in the tree

Seems like the risk of dropping something in a tree is not as high as I thought... I mean, I dont drop my phone on the ground, I will probably not drop it in a tree. I might actually buy a gopro, one of those has been on my wishlist for a long time...

    Let's talk lanyards

I use a 11mm lanyard with a distel knot and pulley. I have a steel carabiner on the throwing end, the extra weight of 50g is barely noticeable and helps a lot when throwing. I also like to use my lanyard as a second srt system and in that case I prefer a steel biner in case I have to choke...

    Backpack for short hikes.

I use a 35 l backpack. In order to keep it organized I use a small bag that you can close by pulling a string (we Germans call them "Turnbeutel", that translates into "gym bag"). I throw all the smaller items into this bag. When I get to a tree, I just clip all the contents of the bag into my...

Here's my dream set up, gear wise for Rec Tree Climbing...

I would probably not be allowed to climb in my local forest if I had a hand saw with me. If there is a branch in my way, I break it with my hands. Yesterday I met the forester while I was rappeling out of a tree, he did not care I was climbing and just walked by. I think I am allowed to climb now :D

Here's my dream set up, gear wise for Rec Tree Climbing...

Nice setup, but 50lbs is very heavy. My gear weighs under 20lbs (35l backpack included) and gets me 90 feet up in a tree. Heres my list: helmet Petzl grigri German army hand ascender xD Footloop- any rope/webbing together these make a rad system 30m (100 ft) edelrid static rope 5m (17ft)...

Carabiners for canopy anchors - crossloading and loading over edge

I think I will try one of those quicklinks, I heard they have to be wrench tightened though, is that true? Dual throwhook lanyard sounds interesting btw, you should give it a try (and tell us how it went)

    Why professionals dislike RADS?

    A 3:1 and a 1:1 dont make a 4:1. A 1:1 is simply a redirect and does not change MA at all

Carabiners for canopy anchors - crossloading and loading over edge

Hello, I have found that a lot of people on this forum say using a carabiner as a canopy anchor is unsafe. The main concern is that the carabiner could be "cross loaded". I did a bit of research and the term "cross-loading" seems to only be used when the carabiner is loaded sideways (on the...

    Why professionals dislike RADS?

I always try not to cross-load them, and this works almost always. Usually the carabiner "floats" under the branch with a small gap between. If I would have to cross-load because of a branches shape I use a base anchor or loop the rope through itself. I have not found any other method for...

    Why professionals dislike RADS?

I climb RADS only, and was not quiet sure how it worked, until now. After thinking about this whole thing for what seem like an eternity, I think I finally understood how the system works (mainly the 3:1/2:1 thing), and it seems so painfully obvious now. Heres my explanation of the different...

    hanging in lanyard/side D's hurts?

Ok, after looking at this for a bit I think I understood what you are trying to say. The technique you describe sounds interesting, but very dangerous too. Imagine what kind of accident could happen if you slipped of the branch: 1. Slip off 2. fall off the side and into your lanyard. Now you...

    Stop auto-conversion of smileys/emojis

Is there a way to do it without adding a space?

    Stop auto-conversion of smileys/emojis

Hi, If I write a post and use a text smiley like : ) it converts it to an emoji. I dont like that, because text smileys are barely noticeable and blend in nicely with the text. Emojis on the other hand are these big yellow circles that shift lines and scream for attention. Can I stop this...

    hanging in lanyard/side D's hurts?

I recently got a skylotec record, before I was climbing on a rock climbing harness. I am just going to continue using the method I have been using until now then, thanks for the help :)

    hanging in lanyard/side D's hurts?

Hello, If I want to advance my rope without standing on a branch I need to hang in my lanyard (15 feet 11mm rope, distel knot with pulley). If I attach it in my side D's my harness (skylotec record) hurts my hips or ribcage, depending on the angle I am hanging at. Is this normal, or is this...
