    Simplest, strong anchors

The world needs more philosophical chaps like you. As a slight aside I have been interested in knowledge that we take for granted as rope workers, and how one can find new areas to explore. The time that we met in Augsberg I was hoping to see a big u-turn in climbers approach to rigging (rope...

You can also tie that onto the vertical section and then cinch it down on the loop.

    Simplest, strong anchors

Hi Tony, can’t get my head around that statement, after all, there are more than two scenarios for a Bowline (and variation). Splitting the line between ‘climbing’ and ‘rigging’ will lead one down a short alley with no exit, not a way I do it or would choose to teach it. I sometimes wonder if...

"Dynamic" rope for specific SRT uses in relevance to anchor safety

This is a great conversation. SRS mechanicals like the Rope Runner and Bulldog Bone tend to slip at fairly low loads, much lower than most assume to be dangerous, 6kN. The 6kN figure is specific to SIT harnesses (I think), from memory Parachute harnesses protect up to 12kN. The easiest way to...

Hobbs VS Stein RCW-3001 VS GRCS... vs Rope Jack vs Rigging Wrench RP292... Rig small and boring.

The Smart Winch has not been mentioned yet, made in Holland, designed by Steven Ibelings, a strong steel bollard surrounds the Harken winch. A realistic problem of the GRCS is people do not switch the Harken winch out when dynamic lowering, and as we do not take data who really knows when...

Knotless VALIANT . I planned to use a Sticht Plate on the rear but the ropes slid too much, went for a Munter Hitch on a grey Buckingham aluminum ring, looks kinda sweet. Legs are endless loops, back pad is simply an eye2eye. I used Brion Toss’ method for the endless loop, was surprised at how...

Without knowing which testing guidleines were used it is hard to define what that WLL means. A specific EN test (Descender, for example) can be tested to 100 120, 140 etc and than known parameters are mapped out. Exceeding these parameters is not a dangerous thing per se but is up to your...

Surely it’s OK. I am 70kg, 11.5mm Rope, number 4 setting, plenty of room to increase friction with settings and rope size. Haven’t tried yet but I reckon this will work on 10mm, and if so will become a complete access and work positioning tool. Very cool.

My one dislike is that there is a slick pin there at all, whichever side it protrudes from.

ODSK asked me for an impression on it, gotta say, I love it. Shared it around on site yesterday, different climbers, diferent ropes, everybody said it was smooth and no slipping. The gradation of control is top notch (pun). I will get one.
