That's a good way to look at it, smart/efficient use of gear rather than ultralighting gear.
Panniers on a bike are great and compact. I've also been happy with a BOB trailer for bigger/bulkier stuff.
Like most of us, I've had more hobbies than I can shake a stick at but these days it's mostly mountain biking. Looking right now to buy a street trials bike for something new to learn. Had a trials bike years ago but never put in the effort to learn the basics, time to change that.
It's much more comfortable having the low tie in. Weird I know. Coming from a tree work background it doesn't look right, we're so used to thinking about having the TIP as high as possible. When I first tried using my work saddle to hunt it was miserable because of that and not having a...
Sorry to bump an old thread, found it searching for something else...
The key ingredient in this discussion is that saddle hunters aren't "sitting", they're just leaning back against the saddle. They also don't have a high TIP which puts pressure under the legs. Their TIP is head height give or...
I had to do some tinkering to get mine to work on 9mm HTP. Started with 6mm Ocean and a Knut hitch but the hitch was binding up before the wrench was engaging fully. Didn't have any o-rings on hand so used whipping twine to build up some material on the tether eye to keep the wrench from going...
Believe it or not it's better now than it was ~8 yrs ago when I first started using my work kit to hunt. The stuff guys were doing would make your hair curl. Try to help keep them from killing themselves and get shouted at by a mob climbimg on wire gate carabiners.
I walked away from those...
It seems like there would be a decent market for Arborist style multicenders in other disciplines that use smaller rope diameters. I'd be all over a 9mm compatible device.
The inherent problem of planting the world's tallest tree in urban areas. I used to work in San Francisco, lot of topped and chopped Redwoods. They turn into a mess and you're going to have a crew out there regularly pruning to maintain the view. An alternative that was done a lot in the north...
Not me personally but much respect to those with the courage to conquer their demons and plot a new course for their life. Some of the best guys I've known had been down that road and made it back.
Definitely. I don't know what the total cost is for Stihl to bring a new high end saw to the market but I suspect the costs are very high. Probably in the millions. To produce a 20 or 30 year old saw is a fraction of that. The development costs are long paid for, it's just a matter of...
Fair enough. Yes, emissions are a big deal in this country and it's not in others. My initial point was simply bringing up another side of the equation when it comes to foreign markets, cost. We see things in terms of emissions because that's what effects what we have available to us. In most of...
This was close to 20 years ago now in CA but the company I worked for had some 3120's and one day when I brought one into the shop for repairs the dealer told me they rarely see a 3120's anymore because of all the overheating problems. After I told him ours ran like a top and never had a problem...
It makes sense that when the rope makes a 540 degree wrap around the object it's more stable laterally than a 360 degree wrap because there's more friction involved. Friction simply acts opposite the direction of motion or impending motion regradless of what direction the motion is. If pulling...
