We have a dedicated on-campus crew specifically for tree care, preservation, and (when necessary) removal. A position just opened up, so I'm sharing here. This really is an Arborist's dream job...we get to do everything here, from Buckets, Climbing, and Rigging, to Plant Health Care...
Tried searching, couldn’t find the answer I’m after...
Does anyone know if the aftermarket black plastic catch Petzl sells fits on the old-style Pantin? I have the version that has an attachment hole on the underside of the cam, but it still looks a little different from what I can see in...
1) Whenever possible, throw from the side the majority of your work is on. When you pull the throw line (and rope) back through the tree towards your work, you can minimize the length of the tail that you'll have to manage beneath you. Then, of course, you'll need to make your base-tie midline...
XStatic is the best SRT line I've used. Anything much bigger and the Wrench doesn't play as nicely, but it works great with the Wrench and either diameter of Armorprus hitches, and my Akimbo absolutely loves it. I've also heard nothing but good things about the RRPro on it.
Brocky posted his hook having a rock climbing quickdraw on it...I use one too (mine's a little longer than what he pictured). I find this REALLY useful, because the hook has to run in line with the crotch it's in, and so the rope can cause it to look a little side-loaded in some positions...the...
Green Arbor Tree Experts is looking to fill 1-2 crew leader-quality positions.
Pay is very competitive, and work is year-round. The company maintains a contract with the City of Indianapolis which creates a steady flow of work all year long with both city street trees and all city parks...
That's a pretty no-hope-left looking house there, Steve. Must've been quite a storm!
Had three big Ailanthus altissima in a tight backyard this past week with long (20'+ long) partially broken limbs hung up in others we had to rig out. Made for an interesting work day.
I have slightly less than 25' of line in my lanyard, and the Keeper manages it well. I keep the very last 3' in a loop with a prussic, and the first 3' or so in a loop between my adjuster and my snap. The rest fits comfortably in the loops of the keeper and the loops hang no lower than my knees.
I'm not sure how I'd feel about climbing on something that has actually had 1000 lbs put on it. I don't think that's how other devices are sold...
If he's as much a train wreck as he appears and you agree, your money and time would be far better spent acquiring something that's already on the...
What I don't understand is why they didn't just ask you if you'd do it...forget trying to save money, if they know you do it and the trees reside mostly on your property, would it kill them to just ask you to make a few cuts? If my neighbors asked me to make a few changes to my trees on their...
That is SO cool. Brilliant device that I could see a lot of use in backyard prunes/trees under 30 ft when getting a quick and dirty DdRT system in is a huge speed advantage.
I've used both Petzl caritools, a wiregate Vault, and a standard Shembiner. They all have their purposes, but none of them hold a candle to the Shem for holding a chainsaw. It never snags on anything...brush is more likely to get stuck behind a gate than in this thing. Going on five years of...
I like that the focus seems to have been on allowing for tool carriers rather than going nuts with gear loops. I love my newest-gen Sequoia, but I actually had to cut off several of the gear loops because they're all over the tool carrier tunnels. How many separate gear loops does one really...
Well, my keeper arrived today in the mail. Let's get right to it:
PROS:
1) It does what it said it would. Quite well, actually. It's well constructed, and operates smoothly after you get the hang of it, which didn't take long. It's quite secure on the harness.
2) The K-Clip (see two posts...
There's no noticeable difference in feel when switching between the two bridges, no.
I, personally, use the aftermarket bridge for primary suspension and use the stock bridge only for positioning with a lanyard in single-leg or for a hook line.
This is what I'm most excited about...I prefer loops to daisy-chaining or ditty-bagging, but they're slow to reposition after I've used a lot, to the point where I've lately been choking my lanyard and using it in a single-line config. recently in situations where it wasn't necessary just so I...
Very interesting discussion. I can definitely see both sides.
I am a part of the tidy-loops-on-the-left crowd. Right now, I have a double-ended, double-adjustable with the captain on the rear half. This would not work with the keeper unless I was willing to let the rope stay in the keeper at...
