Pfanner Ventilation or Clogger Zeros Gen 2

I wanted to add that I’m not upset or complaining about the zippers. I wore those trousers daily for over a year. You’d expect a zipper to give up the ghost! All in all, the trousers have exceptional service for the money.

Pfanner Ventilation or Clogger Zeros Gen 2

Hi Treelander! Welcome! I’ve not worn the Pfanners. I am on my second pair of Zeros and love them! I have one pair and wear em 5-6 days a week. They really hold up well. I found that the zippers on the pockets start to wear out after about 12-15 months of use. That’s my only complaint. They wear...

    Unrealistic expectations

I like your wording “as low as practical” I think I’ll be using that from now on! Thanks! I also push or blow leaves out of the way in the fall.

    Unrealistic expectations

I’m still learning but regarding stumps my quote says “stumps cut to within 2” of turf grade” I try to get closer but that’s not always possible. I also say “removal of all debris that was a result of our work”. I’m sure as I get more experience I’ll be able to get stumps closer to grade.

    Zigzag or Akimbo

Thanks for the advice and help folks. A friend if mine also highly recommended the Zigzag so it looks like that’ll be the next purchase. Seems like I’m getting more conifer work these days and the purchase makes sense. Now I just need a chipper. :)

    Zigzag or Akimbo

Thanks! I’ve thought of that myself. My pitch rope is Xstatic and I use calamine for everything else.

    Zigzag or Akimbo

Thanks! You mind another quick question as you work with far more and larger conifers than I see here in Appalachia? How do you keep your lanyard from becoming sap covered? Do you run chafe tubing over it? I’m using a RE rope grab for adjusting.

    Zigzag or Akimbo

Thanks! I’m using a RE rope grab on my lanyard and like it. I hear you about spruce sap. My lanyard is as stiff as a board right now. I didn’t have the spur issue you mentioned but will be buying isopropyl alcohol this weekend as I have two spruces to remove next week.

    Zigzag or Akimbo

Hi folks. I just finished day one of conifer heavy job and am ready to buy a mechanical prussic. Pine sap has got to be one of the worst substances on earth. My tree ( white pine) was oozing out of every spike hole and cut branch. My lanyard looks like a stick and both hitch cords are...

    Alt Saluting Branches scheme

Great idea Tom! There is a veterans cemetery here’s couple of counties over . My family and I could do a small job for them. Thanks for the idea man! Maybe we could post pics of our projects here on this thread?

When people try to do their own treework

Hey man I agree with you. I’m largely self taught on most of what I do and have benefited greatly from good libraries and patient neighbors. I think the most important thing is to know limits and know when to get help. To get to @Mark Chisholm point I wish someone had stopped me when I was doing...

When people try to do their own treework

Must've used one of them swingin' dutchman's! haha Yep. More like the ignorant Appalachian technique. :D I’m from Appalachia so no offense intended!

When people try to do their own treework

I’ll chime in real quick and ask from the outset for no judgement. My family bought a small piece of land in SW Virginia 6 years ago and it had numerous trees to fall. I’d never touched a chainsaw in my life so I bought a used Farm Boss because the farmer I worked for had two. No chaps, no rated...

    Steve, you've got this.

I was not aware of anything @Steve Connally was going through but he has always been amazingly kind to me online. I’m a newbie from the back of beyond Virginia and he answered emailed questions super quick and in detail. Somebody earlier said quiet humble genius about him and I think it...

    Vinyl Music

I grew up with em but kinda lost touch and bought CD’s and then digital music. But last year my 16 yo daughter and I went to Nashville to see a concert and one of the musicians suggested we go to Grimeys and look for records. We did and 4 hours and 50 bucks later left with Joni Mitchell, Drew...

    Osprey Transporter

Hi folks! I have a new with tags Osprey Transporter Duffel bag for sale. It’s 95L and I need the larger size. I use one of these for my climbing bag and love it. I can fit my Treemotion S.Light, 200’ of rope , Notch Gecko’s and ditty bag in it. The one I am selling has never been used. I’ll post...

    Vinyl Music

Cool! I’ll admit to not being an audiophile. In fact most of what you wrote was like Greek to me:D My 16 yo daughter is really into music and asked about equipment the other day. I’ll bet she’ll understand exactly what you are talking about ! Thanks! It’ll give us something common to chat about...

    Vinyl Music

Nice! My in laws and parents were talking about seeing the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. They said that they all had friends and family over as well as folks from the neighborhood. I tell you man I really feel like I was born a generation late.

I hear you! My girls were blown away by the quality but you know their favorite part? The crackle before the first track on the record.
