First one goes back about 8 years. Young, wiry climber comes down mid-job and re-ascends grabbing the rigging line hand over hand and runs his legs up the trunk like the Batman TV show, one-strong-arm's it until he can get his lanyard onto the tree with his free hand. Don't recall if he had a lifeline already up there or not.
Old school guy spiking a conifer prune spurs up using only his hands around the sides of the trunk, one-strong-arm's it until he can get his lanyard onto the tree with his free hand, had no lifeline. Was a strip popsicle stick prune of about 5 trees. About 10 yrs ago.
Spiking a prune Linden, climber throwline pulls up a DRT line, connects to one end and tells his groundie to "pull him up" by pulling on the other side of the line. Knowing the tension ratio of the line over a natural crotch I knew with two equal size guys he was going nowhere. I did bust a laugh. So he plan B'ed and had the groundie rock-face-style belay him as he spurred/hand scrambled up to the tip where he lanyarded in and connected DRT to his line. When I say belayed, he had no device, just bare hands on the rope.
Not quite apropo, but I free-air SRT power ascendered up with my back to a pool installation worker who had some groundie experience. Freaked him right out when he couldn't see how I magically floated up the rope. But I'm sure he could hear the gears whirring. He bust out his phone to video like a jackrabbit!
