    2014 Picture of the Year

a private place called the Adirondack mountain reserve. only a handful of camps about ten miles from the nearest paved road. I go every chance I get! lots of old growth, rustic cabins built around 1907 out of local spruce, no electricity and no cell phones! I didn't take this one, but this...

Amazing pics everyone! you guys rock. I don't have anything that even compares, but here are some that show my local scenery. January, 2014 two day job at a remote camp. Never got above zero. luckily the caretaker had a wood-stove going in his bunk room and even cooked us hamburgers for lunch!

30 plus years one handing a saw !

TV, I'm just trying to look at the topic from every angle, if you had rigged the piece, would you have needed to grab the wood and take the shot? if it was right over someones door, could there have been a better delineation of drop zones and communication with employees and homeowners? I'm...

TV, so the unexpected happened, and you took the shot for it each time. Let me ask this...in those instances you mentioned is there anything that YOU could have done differently?

Well, actually you might be wrong on this account. if OSHA were to come aknockin' they would cite you for not following manufacturers guidelines and the ANSI Z-133. the issue that you have people running around underneath you means that you are probably also violating a couple of other "Z-133"...

SHOP....what do your shops look like and how are they laid out?

a way to dry wet gear is really important, radiant, fans, heated drying racks, whatever. also a place to suspend systems so you can check out new methods and tools is nice. I went with an outdoor wood boiler back in '98 but i would go geothermal now. all i can say is i wish i had more space...

30 plus years one handing a saw !

Swingdude, I would agree, except that the incident rate of chainsaw accident makes us all look bad - especially to the pencil pushers who determine our insurance rates. Of course an experienced arborist can make a decision to use any tool differently than what it was designed for, as long as...

Could you please keep your voices down? This is a family restaurant. Oh, please, dear! For your information, the Supreme Court has roundly rejected prior restraint! Walter, this is not a First Amendment thing, man. Lady, I got buddies who died face-down in the muck so you and I could enjoy this...

    warm preformance clothing?

I have been very happy with pfanner zermat boots. They keep my tosies dry and warm, the only thing is I don't like is to stand on spikes for very long in them because the instep is rounded and kicks my spike forward and then my calf muscles compensate, then I wake up with cramps at midnight...
