    Rookie question on "tree markings"

Thanks theatertech, these are just spray painted dots at shoulder height on sketchy and dead trees on the same trail.

Thanks for the reply TD.....I guess in a few months the answer (for this inspection/survey) should reveal itself

    Rookie question on "tree markings"

Hello all, just curious when I walk along a trail and see various spray paint markings on trees, some along the same trail are orange while others are green. I assume the orange markers are indicating that whomever has marked them for removal (most appear pretty sickly) but most of the ones I...

    Updated Sequoia

As someone basically looking in from the outside, it seems strange to me that a company would release a completely new attachment system like this and not cover its design and refinement, advantages over others, etc. to try to lessen all this speculation and fear of failure? Just my two...

Tapered Hinge: Diar(y)rhea of a thread gone wrong and left un-moderated

This was the only other picture I took of the fallen tree....the hinge never released even though it closed as it hit the driveway but you can probably see the remnants of the back of the notch which was about 1 inch in size. PS Thanks for the tree ID Daniel, I am sure you are right....along...

    The problem with tip tying

I have seen a vid where he discussed his life and psychology....He seems a very troubled (but good natured) individual.

    The problem with tip tying

If you are talking about the vid I posted it seems he is just a local neighborhood hero, in reading the comments on the video it seems he is not a tree cutter by trade just a crazy guy who feels he is invincible.

Tapered Hinge: Diar(y)rhea of a thread gone wrong and left un-moderated

This thread came along time. Had a small severely leaning pine (starting to pull the roots due to rain so no way I wanted to try to climb it) that needed to fall about 30° off its natural lean to avoid a neighbors tree and the clients flagstone mailbox. Used a notch and a pull rope and it rode...

    The problem with tip tying

Of course his technique was a lot better than this guys.....PS Before anyone watches, I would never post this except the guy by the grace of God was able to return and finish the job the next day.

    The problem with tip tying

As Swingdude points out in post 12, Human took a fall from a weak blind tip a long time ago and broke his pelvis and several other parts....very lucky to not be paralyzed IMO. After a long recovery he is back in trees but seems to have adopted new tactics. As others have said Youtube is a...

    chainsaw sharpener

Just to add to the thread, being new I am able to file a chain but it is never as sharp out of the box as a new chain. However I also picked up one of the HF cheapo sharpener and love it. As far as excess material removal, once the teeth have been set to the angle of the grinder after the first...

Breaking Splices, Sewn Eyes and Other Strange Things.

Instead of a hard epoxy, I wonder if a matrix say something similar to the sidewall of a tire would be effective on a sewn splice. Seems you would need a great deal of flexibility, strength and toughness to be able to not only pass a pull test....but to deal with all the potential abuses...

What is it and why should every truck have one?

Pure water is not a conductor, Fresh water is a poor conductor, salt water is a so so conductor......so when it comes to 12 volts the conductance of even salt water is usually only enough to present itself as an additional load of approx. 2.4 amps per saturated bulb socket. That said over time...
