Never could relate to the whole kuntry bumpkin routine either.....however I guess that's the good thing for a novice like me, they were so busy doing their "act" they hardly even explained or showed the cutting technique on the video.
Me too Rico, I was midway through 9th grade (Jr high ran 7-9 back then) and they told my parents I was plenty bright and they would pass me if I stayed away from school the rest of the year. At 16 I was on probation and my PO made me take a HS equivalency and then later the next yr the county...
Funny note on physics,
I scored in the upper 1 percentile in the country on my SAT's in science and physics in high school....but I figured I would do all a favor and keep my discussion as free of physics quotes and math as possible since its bad enough posting as a tree newbie.....A tree...
Interesting video, but I am not sure that a lubricant that functions best as a cutting oil would be the best for use as an overall gun oil?
I have used Militec-1 in the past with great success on race guns, but others I know hate the stuff LOL
No arborist here but here is what I have done in the past to impart movement.
If you cut a narrow notch (to allow separation of top from lower trunk before much rotation of top has taken place) and tie your pull line only slightly above the notch then the pull line will impart a horizontal...
Only made two climbs in spurs on a thick oak. I was stomping them in and then if felt like pulling nails, each step up....cant wait to try this approach when spring hits...Thanks!
No arborist here (though I occasionally portray one on the internet) but I have done a few decks in my day. If you don't wanna rig it down and have room to fell it why not just pull the rim joist, railing and a few boards and drop it through the opening? Probably take 2 hrs max to remove/replace...
I see your point, but to play devils advocate,
Why do you need a seat belt and air bags if your just going to the neighborhood shopping center?......99.9% chance you never will, but if you do it could be a lifesaver.
Like Tom, that's the reason I like my system, its simple. Just remove the stopper past the blakes and then lower the climber by releasing the blakes a little at a time. The other thing I like about mine is it does not require using any of my sparse gear other than 6 ft of rope to make the blakes.
I made a simple system to climb on, that my room-mate ( 110lb, 56 yr old female) could safely lower me on.
I had a ratchet strap that I used at the base of the tree as my base anchor, but a loopie etc could also be used.
I then attached a short section of Arborplex to the base anchor and tied...
No way in the world (just my opinion). The ladder flexion looks sketchy just climbing it and moving around, let alone when some accidental contact with a cut limb occurs. I see a major lawsuit in the making.
Now if they had a section of 4x4 heavy box tubing extending the same direction as the...
Crimson, I wish you woulda told me the Hayauchi's were heavy before I bought one LOLs
At least I feel better now....I thought I was just old and weak, at least the thing cuts great once you get it on the down-stroke :-)
Reply 12 has been my understanding,
If you document with a simple letter, your concern over a tree you have a much greater chance of success if damage occurs. If you have an arborists written statement (well worth the money) its a slam dunk.
My next door neighbor had a huge tree in her front...
I did the same thing last year. Neighbor wanted a heavily leaning tree removed from over his fence, I am looking at it for a while and finally tell him he should get a "real" arborist to do the job. I was back at my house pricing out work for the next days split rail fence repair ( I do handyman...
