WTF Weaver?!?!

[ QUOTE ]
I realize that we live in a world where your credibility and intelligence are evaluated based on post count but consider, I own one of these saddles, I am not defending Weaver, I have no ties to them; I just want the facts as much as anyone.

There's one case of the new bridge failing.

One's credibility and intelligence should not be judged by number of posts... Most of my posts were accumulated in semi-useless back and forth banter in the 'Trees From a Distance' thread.

Let me put it in perspective. I've never heard anyone in my direct circle (50-60 full time Arborists?) mention being subject to a spontaneous failure of ANY piece of life supporting gear. I have two former coworkers that have been exposed to a large fall and injury due to bridge failures on the Cougar outside of the recall. Fluke?

Any piece of gear that can't take long term abuse of typical production without showing visual indicators that damage has occurred, is fit for the pit. Buzzers are big on inspections and staying up to date on products, but that crowd makes up about 1 in 10 in our industry. Do every Cougar owner you bump into a favour and install a backup.

Weaver, if you're watching this thread: No PR is not good PR. Small community, word will travel.

Ryan,

Can you verify if Weaver has been officially notified of either of these two bridge failures?

Weaver can't act if they don't know, and right now they say they have not heard a thing. Or so some say.

How can you say you haven't heard about something without hearing about it first? I'll call it Weaver's Paradox.

They both were in contact with Weaver.

This just in, another Weaver Cougar bridge failure today over on the mainland. 12 weeks old (the replacement bridge from the recall I might add), no signs of major wear, spontaneous failure. He's ok, was very fortunate to have it fail not far off the ground.

Thank you, Ryan.

Unreal, and uncool. It's time for Weaver to step up and own this mess.

Out of interest, can someone tell me what make & model of cordage is used on these replacement bridges.

I'm unaware of current specs as i dropped this product altogether when this all first begun...but others are still selling them here.

Would i be right assuming that current new cougars would be running this same bridge?

Ok so if you guys have seen these bridges first hand you need to have this documented with pictures and verify which bridge it is and send copies with a formal complaint to weaver and OSHA, ISA, and ANSI. I'm sure there is some other governing body or lawyer that should be contacted. We need to get a formal count on how many bridges have failed new, old, and replacement. Lets be proactive; we can talk about this all day on here but we need to take action.

Any suggestions? Oh and if you know someone climbing on a cougar inform them of the issue and make them replace it. If they use the I don't have money for it excuse loan it to them or buy it for them. Whats the most you will spend on a bridge 75 bucks. I think my friends life is worth that much.

Watch it... that kind of logic will make people mad. It makes so much more sense to say things mysteriously... LIKE THIS JUST IN - ANOTHER FAILURE... Than to send an email to weaver and cc some one credible... or god forbid use registered mail to send one of the bridges back to them...

But i know, johnny anonymous shows up in the 8th inning with lots of treego acting like he saw the whole game... Well I might have listened to it on the radio in the parking lot but they were in the seats getting drunk.

I contacted Weaver and spoke with them.. How many of you guys tried that?

The whole idea here is to get the message out to as many Cougar owners before the unthinkable happens. I've advised them to contact Weaver directly, and Weaver continues to deliver silence on a life-threatening piece of life supporting equipment.

If you're suggesting I'm being hyperbolic or dramatizing the situation, perhaps you can do us all a favour and issue a statement on Weaver's behalf.

How so? You seem to have a lot of faith in Weaver to handle this responsibly. It would seem though, they may have been untruthful with you, it appears that Weaver had been contacted about this before you called.

Watch your tongue boy. Making statements like this about a group of people you don't know is a dangerous game.

Have a little respect for these guys please. It's no joke.

I apologise, I didn't mean any disrespect at all. I agree 100% that it is serious and that is why these complaints and failed bridges need to be sent to the right people. Action needs to be taken. In the mean time, I wish there were more pictures and the people that have fallen as a result of these bridges would come on here and chime in.

Hey guys, I don't want to let this drop. It scares the crap outta me that there are still lots of people climbing on these bridges. We're probably gonna be back here in a few weeks or months with another guy in the hospital after a bridge failure.
Anybody have any good ideas for getting a statement from Weaver on these post-recall bridge failures?
