WTF Weaver?!?!

ChrisOTS,

If you are climbing on a bridge that was new in 2009, I don't care what material it is made of, you are a fool. Please change it out NOW!!! I really don't want to read about any kind of accident that you may have involving the bridge on your saddle. Rope bridges should be replaced at least yearly and more often under the extreme condiitions you mention that you work in. Bridges are cheap and easy to replace, funerals are not!

I do regular inspections, I didn't climb for a living until mid 2010, I have the regular paperwork done to cover my , no worries.
But that being said, one is being ordered due to this recall regardless, I just found out about the ring recall today.

Would a four webbing strap round braided bridge build redundant safety and visual inspection into a bridge? Each strap could meet ANSI standards and if you didn't notice wear and one broke you'd still have three to go before falling. Attached example. Yes this one's a dog leash.

I think the 4 braid webbing looks cool, but if the webbing isn't around a core it will just flatten out. Maybe just go to something like the butterfly bridge?

My stump guy lent me his saddle today to jump up in a crabapple for 3 or 4 cuts, and it was a Cougar. I asked him if he knew about the recall and he did not.

So ChrisOTS didn't know about the ring recall and neither my stump guy nor 223tree nor ratherbclimbing knew about the second bridge recall, which leads me to believe that Weaver has done next to nothing to reach out to Cougar owners (through dealers, etc.) to alert them to these problems.

Unbelievable, really.

I just talked to a buddy of mine that climbs in a Weaver as well and he had no idea about the bridges nor the rings. He was also under the impression that he should replace bridges every 3 years...

Hey Bevin, that braided webbing is a neat idea. I wonder what the strength rating would be for something like that? maybe they could put a piece of cylindrical rubber in the center to keep it round and possibly absorb shock. Something like that rubber in the cobra cabling system.

Pretty sure there hasn't been a recall on the second bridge yet

Which makes it even worse. Either way Weaver should be contacting folks, whether it's to announce a recall or follow up on it.

I contacted Weaver, They dont have any reports of replacement bridges failing.

If you have a real documented incident of failure with a replacement bridge, the black on black ones, instead of ambiguously posting about it on a forum maybe you should contact the manufacturer. IMHO I feel that you owe this to the community at the very least.

Do you believe everything everybody tells you? They aren't going to tell you the problem is known and not dealt with, that would look a lot worse for them, no? If they actually don't know there is a problem, they should be out of the industry.

Johnny Anonymous comes in with boat loads of treego (tree+ego) huh.

Unfortunately an ambulance chasing lawyer will have to get involved before anything substancial comes of it.

I realize that we live in a world where your credibility and intelligence are evaluated based on post count but consider, I own one of these saddles, I am not defending Weaver, I have no ties to them; I just want the facts as much as anyone.
