It was a climber training course @rico. Focuses on safe crane rigging and cutting as a climber. Great class to take. I learned a lot both times I went.

What kinda tether is that?
We recently changed up the way we are running our knee ascenders, running the elastic through the tube which goes around around the back of our saddles supported buy our shembiners. I've only got a couple climbs on it set up this way but really liking it, takes pressure off my shoulders and puts a lot more elastic into play.
Got the hhxf a few weeks ago I've been really enjoying it @Richard Mumford-yoyoman gotta say you nailed I've just gotta remember how to tie a hitch I like the pictured one worked pretty well for me, I was doing a prune on a privet to keep it from rubbing the oak in the picture.

Mechanicals i have tried that I never got comfortable with- Rope Runner (original and pro), BDB, Spiderjack (2 & 3), and the Akimbo. Time will tell whether the Zigzag sticks around, but so far the transition has been very easy and intuitive for an old hitch based climber like myself. I will say that I was not a fan of the Chicane and ditched it ASAP. Instead I did a little tweaking and got a Caralink v2/notch flow to absolutely sing with the zigzag.

Absession Caralink V2 (8.5 inch version) and a Notch adjustable wrench. In a hitch based system I always completely remove the rubber grommet on the top of wrench tethers as I find that it really fucks up the slack eating capabilities. The grommet does the same with the Zigzag but to a lesser degree so I am in the process of fine tuning the placement of the grommet.
Nice! I have found that the money hitch with the HHFX is the Arbsession hitch. I use 8mm cordage with 4 wraps (just like the vid). Amazing setup! Give a whirl if you can.

Thanks! Ive been playing around with a rope wrench but having trouble getting it to run free going up. I wear out hitch cord a lot due to doing lots of crane rigging. A zigzag is on my to buy list anyway. If i can also use it with my rope wrench for SRT, even better.

The ZigZag is the way to work off a crane, in my opinion. It can handle the heat of long descents all day, it does not wear out near as fast as an hitch, but it feels about as close to a hitch as any mechanical ever will.
It does not work real well with a pulleysaver though, it has to have a little bit of friction at the top end, so use a ring or shackle on the crane, not a friction saver with a pulley. If you do, it will be a bit jerky.

We already use a ring setup on our cranes for a climber tie in. I dont care for the free float from a pulley. I like a little top friction.
I keep a rescue 8 on my harness as well. On long drops Ill throw it on and open my hitch. I like being on a hitch while tying dead eye crane slings so i can manuver.

Still using a Lucas mill? That's some nice looking lumber.
Yep. The Lucas just works so well in my eco system. It is all the things that my bandsaw mill wasn't. Easy to transport. Takes BIG diameter logs. Can set it up anywhere. Easily extends to mill 25-36 ft logs. Extremely quick and easy to sharpen. Has a kick-ass slabber attachment. In the right hands it can produce perfect lumber, and do it it very quickly. On top of all that it is relatively affordable. The Lucas 10/30 is hands down the best money I have ever spent on a tool.
