Always good to have at least a throw line in the bucket to pull up a rope, and then gear.

I was able to get it safely on the ground in with no help at all, since he was with his infant and 6 year old while his lady was at work. Almost caught some sleet at the end, but I had it done just in time.
They look like Crape Myrtles all grown up.Man, Madrona are such stunning trees!

Do the bags of firewood then get sold? Is this done in a woodyard? Must be, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a firewood bag. Nice rack.I welded up a stand to hold our firewood bags while we fill them. Right now we have been hanging them off the forks on our mini skid.

There is one on an undeveloped commercial property next to I-5 where I worked 12-14 years ago (not on the madrone, which the guy wanted removed before becoming potential protected). You wouldn't know how big it is from the interstate, 3 trunks, 3', 3', and 4' diameters. Huge!!Man, Madrona are such stunning trees!
The lean on an understory madrona can be unreal. They really are, and a really iconic part of my region. Enjoyable to climb, but sometimes grow at extreme angles that make for some real challenges. This one was easy, and open enough to literally swing and jump between leaders which was great fun.
Sometimes the develop a tri- lobed cross-section... crazy response to strain. We usually just use them to store split firewood and then dump them in our f550 for deliveries. They have loops on the bottom to help dump thrm into the truck. The bags hold 1/3 of a cord and cost about $15 EA. We have our own wood lot that our tree debris gets hauled to. We then process it into firewood or take good logs to be milled.Do the bags of firewood then get sold? Is this done in a woodyard? Must be, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a firewood bag. Nice rack.
They are so gorgeous and distinctive to see in person. I traveled to Vancouver and Vancouver Island this summer and they were all over the place within a specific elevation. The lean on an understory madrona can be unreal.

A new term for me, when reading about madrona:
sclerophyll, type of vegetation characterized by hard, leathery, evergreen foliage that is specially adapted to prevent moisture loss.
