This is the Akimbo

I know this may bring on some moaning from the SRT diehards but I would love to see a second attachment for DdRT. What makes the Hitch Climber so amazing is it keeps the pulley and hitch oriented perfectly for tending slack when the termination end is loaded. I know this device is designed for SRWP so I'm not expecting to see it happen, just wishful thinking as I usually work the tree DdRT (my elbows and shoulders appreciate the 2:1 these days). I would love to get ahold of one of these to try it out!

weight limit to be determined.
as for DdRT, there could be an attachment like the spiderjack dyneema that would hold the unit upright for slack tending. that is something that can be worked on as an add on maybe. as is it works quite well for DdRT, just requires slack tending.

It needs to be able to remote control a helmet mounted GoPro to stay pointed at, and focused on, the Akimbo at all times. Yeah, I know... you want footage of your 1/4" diameter TIP as you swing through the trees with the grace of Tarzan while eating a ham sandwich. But, we want video of the Akimbo as it behaves during a climb, and not more footage of monkey-humping, ham sandwich arborists.

That's a thing of beauty. If it only works half as good as it looks, it will still sell like cheap beer at a Nascar race.

Please make it 275, at least. I really like the others on the market, but weight limit puts it right out of my market.

Magnum, what are your thoughts on Uni? Same weight issue but if you called Rock or Morgan you might be able to get a custom build with an extra link or 2 added. Just a wild thought.

I have no ill thoughts towards it just no experience with it. I really really just want someone to build something that can with stand the use of someone like my size. For example the MCRS, that's something built my style strong and durable.

Wow, monkeylove, that is a really great idea! Way to go "thinking outside the box".

The only Rock Exotica stuff I've purchased so far has been their biners, on the recommendation of Burnham from the Tree House forum. He recommended it because of the fact that the gates open by pulling in towards your palm, which is opposite of most others, I think. Some folks don't like having a mix of biners that open in different directions, but these look so much different, it does not bother me. They are really beautifully made, and gorgeous to look at. I do tend to like the larger size of the Petzl William biners, though.

Back to your recommendation to Magnum, it would be really cool to find out that Rock Exotica was so responsive as a company to be willing to custom modify a production Unicender.

I really have my eye on their new "Transporter" tool carrier. It looks like a really beautifully designed piece of gear. One thing I just noticed in the ad copy for the device is that it can be "semi-permanently" attached to the saddle, via a piece of aluminum that can be unscrewed and clamped around the saddle's webbing. They even include two different sets of screws of different lengths, to accomodate different thicknesses of webbing straps. The gate is lockable, and requires two motions to unlock, but it can also be used without locking it.

Man, my wish list just keeps getting longer.

Sorry for the derail.

@JMerritt, Hey, Jaime! I know all of the questions that folks ask about the timeline stuff are a lot like the situation that happens with kids on a long cross-country trip. Always asking "Are we there, yet?", and so forth.

So, the question that I have, and that you are probably not yet able to answer, is what company is it that will end up manufacturing your device? You don't have to answer the question now; I'm just putting it out there, knowing that it will probably be revealed when you get the legalities of contract talks all nailed down, and get closer to an actual production date.

I guess the reason I decided to ask the question relates to my recent posts about Rock Exotica. I just went to their website and read their page that laid out the history of how the company came to be, and what Rock Thompson went through in the early days of growing his manufacturing and design company.

I guess in my heart of hearts, I'm hoping that it ends up being Rock Exotica that manufactures your Akimbo. I just tend to think that the quality of the finished products that they produce is outstanding, and that if given the opportunity, they would do the Akimbo justice.

I know your choice of manufacturer is a done deal, already, and that with your level of attention to detail, the finished product will be great, no matter who ends up making it.

Also, my vote as far as design work is concerned, is that you take your time and make the Akimbo the way you would want it to be, if you were only making it for yourself. If you are finally satisfied with the Akimbo, to the point where you can hardly think of anything else you'd like to change or add on, it will end up being a climbing device for the ages. Stand back, because the demand for your new product is going to blow the doors off of the place.
