This is the Akimbo

I think the weight limit is pretty much stated with where the device slips at ( with the Runner and Akimbo). If your weight when shock loading or coming to a stop from a fast descent is over that like most are then it is something to consider. I wonder what would make an in line device have a higher slip force though.....

@JMerritt, Hey, Jaime! I know all of the questions that folks ask about the timeline stuff are a lot like the situation that happens with kids on a long cross-country trip. Always asking "Are we there, yet?", and so forth.

So, the question that I have, and that you are probably not yet able to answer, is what company is it that will end up manufacturing your device? You don't have to answer the question now; I'm just putting it out there, knowing that it will probably be revealed when you get the legalities of contract talks all nailed down, and get closer to an actual production date.

I guess the reason I decided to ask the question relates to my recent posts about Rock Exotica. I just went to their website and read their page that laid out the history of how the company came to be, and what Rock Thompson went through in the early days of growing his manufacturing and design company.

I guess in my heart of hearts, I'm hoping that it ends up being Rock Exotica that manufactures your Akimbo. I just tend to think that the quality of the finished products that they produce is outstanding, and that if given the opportunity, they would do the Akimbo justice.

I know your choice of manufacturer is a done deal, already, and that with your level of attention to detail, the finished product will be great, no matter who ends up making it.

Also, my vote as far as design work is concerned, is that you take your time and make the Akimbo the way you would want it to be, if you were only making it for yourself. If you are finally satisfied with the Akimbo, to the point where you can hardly think of anything else you'd like to change or add on, it will end up being a climbing device for the ages. Stand back, because the demand for your new product is going to blow the doors off of the place.

Thank you Tim. your right that i dont want to say who i am negotiating with till the deal is done. i also want to give them a chance to be prepared and up to speed on everything before making an announcement. what i will say is that i agree with you on the quality of rock exoticas gear. as soon as i started to think about the aesthetics of the Akimbo i went straight to the unicender as the high bar to shoot for. of all the gear out there i think it is the most elegant and beautifully made. now, whoever it is that ends up making the Akimbo is more or less taking on a finished design. not much will change (fasteners, markings, etc). my criteria in choosing who will make this has been guided by the question of who can bring it to the largest market of users with the highest quality for a competitive retail price... or whoever gives me a million dollars first ;).

as far as timeline... i AM making this for myself! dont doubt for a second i wont be using it every day and cursing myself for every detail ive overlooked. as im learning more about this process im realizing that i can incorporate more little details i previously thought unimportant or unnecessary (like holding the cam out of the way when its open). so every time i think its ready to finalize, i end up going deeper. i think it is going to be well worth the wait!

I know this is gonna get ridiculed, but do you have some 16 strand (~1/2") that you can try it on!!!

I know. I know. But I've got loads of it (even a 70m line) & I can't afford/justify a new line yet!!!
