This is the Akimbo

the akimbo descends by pulling down on the top arm. if you had a hand ascender fail to grab and you had a footloop attached to it you could potentially have the weight of your foot/leg pulling the ascender down onto the top arm and cause an uncontrolled free fall. better to avoid the situation.

Fair enough I suppose, with a small twig or something stuck in the camming mechanism

When you say that the top arm bending initiates decent ... would you say it resembles A rope runner in the « bending » motion or more similar to a hitch /zigzag where you just pull straight down ?

when i climb on the RR i hold it with my right hand thumb kind of wedged between the side plates of the "nose" and my fingers on the spine. i pull down with my thumb to descend. whith the akimbo i tend to rest my thumb on the spine with my fingers wraped around the "nose". to descend i pull down and inwards with my fingers. i dont know how it compares to the zz as ive never used one.

So, those of you who have their kickstarter/gofundme RE models arriving now (Mark C., I see videos that you have been flying it a while now):
Who has climbed on it, what rope are you using, and what are you finding out about it?
What rope is best overall in your opinion?

I just got off the phone with Wesspur. They said they're hoping to receive shipment during the first or second week in February and to keep an eye on their Facebook as they'll be posting on there once they have em. Any orders made before December should make the first round from the sounds of it. It also sounds like they're just as anxious to get them.

I was hoping they'd get them sooner as I'll be in the States this weekend and that would have lined up nicely. As expected I'll probably receive mine closer to the end of February after it makes it's cold and lonely voyage up north.

Thanks for the update... good news is I’m in for mid November, bad news still have to wait

Got an email today from Bailey's online, showing the Akimbo in stock.

@pigwot

The Akimbo section on Rockexotica.com has some recommendations, with two load ranges.

I'm 182, plus top-handle and a little gear.
So far, I've been on Poison Hyvee, well broken in, but SRT'ed, so not lots of bark friction fuzz. Old and still smooth.

I've tuned,but not fine tuned.
When I can barely get it in the device, its buttery smooth, Not sure of the numbers, ATM.
I think I need to adjust one cam, one notch tighter, as I think it was falling slack a bit (too loose) when working down the spar, introducing a bit of slack.

Sooo nice!

Haven't tried the tender on a chest harness. Maybe today...My new-to-me Swing Chestie (or whatever its called) and Akimbo. Might be like a leprechaun riding a unicorn.

@JMerritt
Has there been an Akimbocorn (unicorn) graphic, that I've seen?

I don't know what the Pegasus/ Akimbo graphic would be called? Maybe more apt!
