the wonders of useing spliced ropes

The allgear technora is the Atlantic Braid stuff I'm using. AB makes it, AllGear sells it, so does Knot & Rope Supply. Wickedly strong stuff.

When you mark a taper with that particular cord you don't want to go in even multiples of 8. It's a 16 strand hollow braid rather than 12 so if you mark a pair and then go 4,4... you're marking the same pair.

I've been marking the 13th pair from the eye and then go 4,5,4.... that works with 12 strand tenex too. You could just as easily go straight 5,5,5.

i just used the 8 4 4 and it actually worked pretty good but i'm still just starting to expearment so i'm going to try the 13 out and454 and maybe even 555 to see which i can work w/ the easiest

It's probably how you marked it.

Think about 16 strand though, 8 yarns going one way and 8 going the other way, so every eighth pik is the same yarn. With 12 strand, it's every sixth pik.

The 13 -- 454 is just a variation on the Samson eye-eye instructions which I think say 13 -- 555

sorry guys i jumped back here for this question as it refers to db when im in the last stages of my splice should i taper the core for a more fluid splice as i dont do that now an all three of my splices seem to come to an abrupt end in the rope and is very noticeable i know with the full core it's probably a sturder splice(more grab area i think i don't know for sure thats why i'm asking cause i'v tested one of them and there was no movement none (i marked the rope before the drop 10' at 175 lbs as thats about what i weigh) but the bulky splice end dosent look quite like all the others i've seen and thats the only reason i can think of.

The end of the rope should not be noticeable. If there is a bump in the rope, you will experience more chafing at that bump and the fibers at the bump will be stressed more in high load situations.

A smoother splice with a fair taper is always stronger.

i just bot some beeline 10mm to make a footlock prusik(spliceable) does it splice the same as the 8mm, or is it spliced differently. i want to make an isloated eye for the prusik to tie on to the rope is this possable?and if it is any ideas to help?

RED ALERT!!!!

5/16 beeline should be spliced with an exposed eye.

10mm beeline should be spliced as normal double braid.

If someone else is encouraging you to splice it otherwise, they are probably wrong, but we could definitely look more closely into that.

This is why I simply will not use beeline anymore. Two completely different ropes, made of different materials with different braids, the larger one weaker than the smaller... yet both have the same name. What's the deal with that?

Yale makes good ropes but the beeline thing erodes my confidence in them.

There are good, far less confusing alternatives.

what might be some good alternatives to the b-line that are spliceable? and thanks for redalert i wouldnt had been happy to do a splice the might not be suitable for what i'm trying to do;)

HRC, HRC, HRC!

It's the best cord I've ever used on a 24 strand rope. It's sorta like 8mm Beeline... sorta.

The cover is a blend of Nomex and Technora, the core is Vectran... it's a snap to splice into a split tail, Pull off the cover; locked brummels and a crossed taper just like tenex; pull the jacket back over, stitch and whiplock; trim the cover; dip the eye.

It's at least as sensitive as 8mm Beeline but it never glazes or locks down... ever. I'm a true believer.

Honestly, I like 8mm Beeline, you can hardly beat it on PI. It's the 10mm that pisses me off, they should simply give it a different name and save everybody a lot of trouble.
