selling mature crown reduction to average folks

Re nodal cuts, I've tried with Asplundh to get them to consider reducing instead of removing big limbs to the trunk. Even when the collar does not exist, 'collar cuts' are all they want to know.

They respond as if I'd pissed on a crucifix, or a Koran. Not receptive at all. The more off the tree, the merrier they will be. No matter what happens next year, maximum clearance today is the only goal.

They switched from roundovers to V pruning and groundtosky 20ish years ago. They are the Titanic of tree companies, and they can't change but a few times per century.

JD3000, good question about growth inhibitor application. I'm not sure and I assume that it's side affects in the ecosystem aren't as bad as pesticides or herbicides. But that's a huge assumption. I just looked it up and saw it has herbicide qualities as well. Is that true? Not that it's horrible necessarily. I'm not a PHC guy and I think the practice contradicts itself, at least to some degree. You should have extremely good reasons to apply a chemical. And rarely do it. Generally, I see that the benefits of applying a chemical help with the target problem, possibly only temporarily, (neo nicotininoids for ash), then cause a chain of unwanted side effects. Quite likely many side effects which go unnoticed. So don't tell me there are no side effects. You just don't know what they are yet. The ecosystem is a whole.
