2 Pages went by fast. My opinion on one handing vertical spars down (as was shown with Oxman's photos & video)...

I mean no disrespect for Oxman or anyone else who chooses to chunk down a spar this way. This is just my opinion. It is not a judgment call.

I think it shows lack of confidence and capability to make a reliable snap cut (to stay vertical when the saw is being put away) that will break off 100% of the time, when needed to detach.

That lack of confidence is why one takes the hand off the saw. --To keep it from coming back on the climber, naturally.

Ok, I'm

What is the sequence for a double buck? is it front cut of snap cut, back cut of snap cut, step down, then front cut, break biscuit off then back cut, then ect ect ect? that order seems highly productive and safe. i'll have to try it the next time i chunk down a tree.

Jamin,

Whatever works for you.

I've only been single cutting rounds...and one handed if needed, for 35 years. Have I ever had an incident of kickback? Not sure, but I think I remember once when I didn't make a cut properly with a bar shorter than the round, and the tip contacted the uncut wood. Surely it is not for everyone, or anyone who is overly (?) safety conscious.

Not only is it much faster, but the homeowner , or whoever is dealing with the wood isn't left with funny lookin mismatched ends.

Here's a tip that works on larger rounds, and allows use of two hands on the saw and cutting all the way through without pinching the saw. Near the end of the cut, as the kerf starts to close, back bar a couple times, which makes a space for the bar to move freely. Works most of the time. Of course, a wedge, file or stick works as well.

Oxman,

I'm sorta a noob myself, but i will through my two cents in... the thing that stood out the most with your video was that you rarely if ever locked the chain on your saw.

I have found that during repositioning or even just repositioning the saw in front of myself, because of so many ropes close by and the possibility of even a small slip which could leave the saw trigger vulnerable to a clenched fist, i try to lock it/turn it off whenever possible.

Even the time when you left it running below you (probably locked) I noticed the branch turned it off, i would think the branch could have just as easily unlocked it, at which point it could idle and cut rope.

You got the experience, man. But I still learn from children.

Props for posting your work here. It takes courage to do that. It helps me and I appreciate it.

Jeff I thought I deleted all but you are right that one is still there, but it ain't a piss up and that is an apology to you. Here again why I love the buzz, we can hash out and still continue to keep going. I have nothing against X, he just got mad at me when I was pissing around rightfully so, maybe? But it's not the end of the world and I would joyful buy him a drink or two ( though I been sober 7 years thank God that is a whole new thread that don't belong here ). As for the pics of the babe's I will see what i will do, its get's harder when you are 44 and the hot babes are 20. Hope the wife didn't peep at that. I will take it easy that is island style. Don't worry dudes I ain't going nowhere the buzz is fun and will try not to ruffle too many feathers. Paul.

I delete my posts when I say something too mean or not suitable for this forum.

I'm not ashamed of my posts. I did not make any personal attacks, just pointed things out like I saw them.

I hate long posts and "no" Daniel, I didn't expect you all to read all of that. Mostly was just between SwingDude and myself.

I can erase the whole post that was directed toward you dude if you want me to AND if you can answer the next question honestly.

Personally wondering how long have you been climbing trees proffesionally now?

Thanks,

Oh, p.s. Not backing down is not the same as not admitting you are wrong. Just something to think about.

Tom,

Thanks, I didn't see that.

But I'm asking SwingDude and he is starting over fresh again.

So it doesn't matter what he said before, just want to hear from him.

Thanks,

I feel that Paul is doing some "extra credit". Where he is, no one would be bothered if he worked off a ladder with no ropes, one-handing like James the Narcoleptic. For a guy in a part of the world in which nobody follows any written standard, he sure does cling pretty close to the subjects and modern techniques discussed on this forum. That's worth $0.03!

Nice to see I haven't been too much of an ssa, X you seem the real deal as I have now watched your 4 vids and they are real good. And that is MY honest opinion, you are a strong climber and rigger, with years of experience and seem a cool guy who has traveled and done some cool stuff ( redwood etc and the holiday in mexico in the coconut tree ). You been on my mind since friday as I really knew I was not playing fair and on Sat I really posted some attacking crap totally uncalled for ,I thought you really did not understand what I was saying in my posts, we are from two different cultures and I do find I sometime can't get my point across properly even though I have traveled all over the world I still am very Bajan . That aside I have been climbing a little less than 4 years at a friend's suggestion. I talked all about it in a post that Josh started about a professional hack never tried to hide anything. David I ain't no kid and have done some cool stuff in my life but now treework has consumed my life and I feel so limited here. I was born in Canada and did high school and University there but always worked outdoors, watersports, spearfishing and landscaping . I have always been athletic and climbing has come naturally for me, everyone in Barbados except a couple dudes spike everything here. That's how I learned and did for a year and a half. You were right I got pissed when I assumed I was be treated like a newbie and that my climbing was such. But my friend who has been climbing for fifteen years and got balls of steel in my book has given me respect because he sees how I climb and rig for my short career. These trees ain't easy down here tallest height being 80' but they are real unshapely and broad, with poor tie in points because of all the topping or the speacies. In that short space of time climbing has consumed every waking hour as well as my finances as I started my own buisness with hardly any money. But I get a good set of work for such a small island where the people are not interested in trees. Anyhow I have done some big removals ( for our island )and lots of pruning and I am pretty damn proficient at old school rigging and am quite creative as I have an engineering background which is really the fun part. I did show what pictures I have taken since deciding to post a few but they are from my blackberry and my groundies hate taking them they just want to work. They really don't do justice, the trees down here are wild and jungle style very difficult to get through the canopies. just bare with me, maybe if you get to understand a little about me you may look at me differently. Not to blow my own trumpet but I am a pretty decent guy. So hope we can be friends on here and I will try to be clearer in my posts. The spikeless thing is only for small trees as I was trying to get across, calling the tree Ox was doing as being small ( again no offence to the tree or Ox ) I do small trees and they all add up at the end of the month, down here work is work. I one hand all the time when necessary, I think my saw skills are pretty good but when posting I refrain from saying this here ( again sorry for saying never it was stupid ), but I do make an effort to get in good positions to cut with two hands. Okay David I hope this clears the air and you see a little bit more about me. I don't need to lie and I got nothing to prove I just want to get better as a tree worker. I like the buzz and the banter in the sharing lots of good dudes around. I hope to meet some of you sometime as I do travel as much as I can, like to see how others live. Met the Grover in Scotland at Xmas showed me around it was the nicest part of my holiday. Again I would really appreciate if you delete the posts where we were at it I did so because as you say I don't wan't to cheapen the Buzz with my pollution. I hope all will respect this. Thank you have a good and stay safe with them big trees and cranes. I know it is long but I thought I owed you an explanation it was due.

Oh yeah I just mentioned the stuff did in my life to let everyone here know a little about my background. I don't have a website so I thought it was a way of giving you an idea of who I am. Sorry to be so but I live far away, sort off. 3 hours from Miami come visit anyone if you need to warm up hospitality awaits. Paul.

Nice to meet you
Paul. I'm cool. Seriously, I let things go, easily, especially when the other person does the same. I decided to look into u a little as well. All I found was your bio on master blasters site u wrote last month, on it you stated you been working trees for 3 yrs. Just wanted to see what u would say. Saying 4 is fine, as I realise you might have started a little here and there before.
I deleted the long post. Ur rope rigging looks good in the pictures btw, I liked the blocks and half hitches and ppe, your probably one of the best, or soon to be the best on the Island.
Glad ur not mad at me either, sometimes if I get into a big argument on here with someone, they never seem to forget it or let it go. Really seems u are letting it go and that says a lot about you, very positive strength.
Take care,

That's cool David hope to learn from you and the others on here and build on what I am doing. Would love to get in bigger tree's because as you say I love the excitement and it gives me a rush that the booze and drugs didn't ( another part of my past nothing I am ashamed of was just a little wild ) , who knows maybe I move back to Canada, but oh the cold I have become a lover of the heat and the beach culture is nice. Who know's what the future holds huh ? Keep buzzing dude as your posts are interesting. Paul.
