Rope Wrench - Hitch/Rope compendium.

The VT would need two numbers to describe the wraps and braids. Michoacán, one of the most common, usually gets described by just the amount of wraps.

I climbed on a wrench with a 12 inch tether with a 3/3 VT for 7 years. Been on a shorty and michoacan for 3 months. Would never go back ever. Even DdRT on the crane it is a michoacan.

I would love to hear some of you hitch-using gurus compare and contrast the Michoacan with the Knut hitch. I've not yet tried the Michoacan, but really like the Knut hitch and how it behaves. I'm wondering what advantage I would gain by switching to the Michoacan. Thanks in advance for any comments from the folks who have used both hitches and can tell me what the differences are in performance between the two.

I honestly have not given the knut a fair chance. I know at least one really good climber who swears by it.

Can't believe timbr hasn't tried it yet. Just tye it on ur lanyard if you don't like trying new stuff.... Try as many as u can as often as they don't do exactly what you want them to do.

Let's not forget Brocky's Bust-A-Knut Hitch. A wonderful hitch thats in a league with both the Michoacan and the Knut.

Putting them together, the first is the original, with double eyes. Next to it is the version that works best for the Hitch Hiker. The bottom left is an end of rope, or single eye hitch I came up with. The last one is shown in arborjason’s you tube video and is a double eye version, I didn’t think to try that.

Thanks, I'll have to try those. I haven't had great experiences with the knut, but that was only with a sewn eye to eye, it was a little bit too loose. The enzyme and catalyst are on my experimental list anyway, just added the bust a knut.

Well... today this came...

ShortyBeeLine.webp

So, I had to give it a try...

RW-RED-SHRT.webp

Rope: KM3 Max 11mm
E2E cord: 8mm Beeline
Hitch: 4-wrap Michoacan
Weight: 185 lbs.

A few runs up and down at 40' tells me this is a winner. Performed flawlessly. Swapped the Beeline out for Epicord 8mm and performance was similar... but I like the Beeline better.

Now your talking Mr Gu. 11mm climbing line, 8mm hitch, a shorty tether, and a Michoacán. A Wrench at its finest..

Where did you get the shorty tether?
